Pretty pathetic and gutless for GMCP to waste this rare opportunity in what is likely their last chance at a cup with #8

No matter what else he does in his career I'm not sure I'll ever be able to look past what he's done this season since taking over after BMac's magic.
Holy overreaction, you have no idea what he tried to do vs what he didn’t do. It’s been 60 seconds since the TDL ended.

Trust me I'm not thrilled with today either but come on lol
The only reason he is in this position in the first place is because of his father, and he took over at a critical time in the franchise.

I don't think it's unfair to criticize him whatsoever

Are you under the impression that BMac is taking today off? He's still the president of the organization. If you think the Caps screwed up today, why is he absolved of any blame?

It's 100% fair to criticize him.

It's not fair to give him no credit for the moves in the summer and BMac no blame for today. Claiming you can never forgive him no matter what happens next is a massive overreaction to one underwhelming trade deadline

And so is it as easy as FLA/TBL and then DAL/COL essentially for the SCF? Or can the Metro/Pacific brackets compete? Have to believe those are the favorites after they all loaded up, though it's quite possible DAL/COL ends up being a first round match-up! Crazy. Hell, FLA/TBL also could...but I doubt it.

Looks like Toronto has added Carlo but I don't think that's enough for them.

Yeah, no. A big boy job comes with big boy responsibility.

This season was a rare opportunity. You guys are kidding yourselves if you think 8 won't slow down even more next season, if he even plays next season to begin with.

Florida is the easy favorite in the East, and Dallas also looks like a juggernaut.

It’s the Panthers to lose in the Atlantic now. It will take a miracle for the Leafs to beat the Panthers.

me being wrong about thompson doesnt suddenly mean this was a good deadline for the team

No, it means that trusting you on hockey prognostication is like trusting a Magic 8 Ball that only has negative answers no matter how hard you shake it.

You've got no idea what was available, what they were working on, and what the pricetags were. We DO know how ridiculous those pricetags were this TDL. Seems very likely that the best course here was to stand pat. Adding a good depth piece isn't nothing.

And why would this be our last chance with Ovi? Do you really think this year has been a Cinderella run the whole time? Who do we figure to lose in the offseason that you think we'll crater next year?

Ovi has 2 years left, why the F are we not pushing all the chips into the center or the table

Because we don't owe him that. Look at who moved that might've realistically been moved to us instead. Which of those guys should we have outbid for? Bjorkstrand, maybe? What're the Panthers paying for Marchand if that turns out to be real?

We owe Ovi a lot, but I wouldn't gut our promising farm and current overall situation tilting at windmills unnecessarily. I want to win a Cup, and I hope we do it with Ovi, but I don't want the team to suck after his departure when it doesn't have to.

This is going to go one of 2 ways

The chemistry in the locker room was too good to tinker with and the Caps win the cup on the back of this team that loves playing for one another, or, we didn't want to mess with the "chemistry" and take a swing on players who might think they are better than everyone else on the roster

I think I am now in the camp of this will be a great regular season team that flames out in the first round, not enough high end talent players, but they've surprised me all year.

Have you forgotten what he looked like in the playoffs last year? Do you close your eyes when he's on the ice in 2/3 zones this season? The playoffs are only going to magnify that stuff
