- Guys just did not get going at all after that long SH. Thanks to Augustine they let only one and was able to turn it around in the last five minutes of the period.
- Good to see Rutger with couple goals.
- I don't know if its the big ice or the fact that junior hockey is also more structured these days but the speed is not what it used to be.
- Thank God, Brindley is fine. He has been awesome to watch.
- Hutson still sucks
- I don't know how they almost gave a major for Fortescue.

I can't quite believe that we won 10-2. It just show how much fire power this team have. Okay, Urban wasn't great but still. Truth is that Slovaks were pretty good in the first 35 minutes and we spend way too much time in our own zone. Great thing is that goals is coming from different lines and Augustine has been rock solid.

If we face Latvia in the quarters I am bit worried that our road to semis is too easy. Then they need to be able to adapt fast.

Nazar turn even shots from the line to assists.

US was good but mostly Slovakian goalies were trash.

Glad both goalies ended up getting two games but this is pretty clearly Augustine’s net
Not by talent but the coaches will go with him.

US took another good step forward today, by achieving a key team goal by going undefeated and winning Group B. We're seeing some big evolutions over the preliminary round -- McGroarty now producing after a long layoff, Augustine cemented himself as USA's medal round goalie, Gauthier breaking his goal scoring draught, excellence from the BC line and the emergence of Brindley and Howard as key scorers. Nazar is an assist machine. Zeev Buium who just turned 18, and had an excellent game today with a goal, an assist and was a team-leading plus 4 today.

I think Coach Carle is also improving the defensive approach by improving the angling and play at the net front, which has reduced second chance opportunities.

Oh my.... Glad I did not stay up for that. Well done, U.S.A. WOW!

****

With Sweden going to a Shoot Out, looks like you will be the Top Seed - thereby avoiding Canada and Sweden until the GMG. Well done.

The balanced scoring has really started to emerge.

Every skater on the roster has registered at least a point, with 9 players at a PPG+. 11 different goal scorers, with 3 guys over a goal per game.

Finland did us a huge favor getting that game to OT. We've now finished as the overall #1 seed. Assuming Canada beats Germany in regulation, they'll be the #3 seed, and Sweden will be the #2 seed. Unless Sweden somehow gets upset in their QF matchup, USA wouldn't face Canada (or Sweden) until the gold medal game.

Assuming no upsets, and Canada wins their QF game, the SF matchups would look something like:

Sweden vs Canada
USA vs Slovakia / Finland

While the final score was generous to the actual flow of the game, so were the 40 Slovakian shots given a lot of those were long-distance or multiple rebounds banked off Augustine's pads in the same scramble that Augustine easily controlled.

Very strong and composed effort from Augustine. Tracked the puck well, squared up to everything, and was excellent in the net-front scrambles smothering the puck. He's especially improved his game on the latter over the last year. It used to be a noticeable weakness for him. The net is Augustine's for the rest of the tournament unless he completely goes off the rails.

The major penalty kill was the turning point of the game. PKers were excellent and Brindley's effort to bury a shorthanded goal to boot was a backbreaker.

Much improved game from Rinzel and Buium. They were a trainwreck against the Czechs but were strong today.

McGroarty looked more like himself, which is a good sign that he's getting back into the swing of things post-injury. The different line dynamics with Snuggerud out sick helped that, too, so I hope the staff doesn't just return to the regular 1st line.

Fortescue quietly had 2 strong games in a row, playing his style of game precisely. It's a good thing when you don't notice a guy like him outside of the unfortunate puck-over-glass penalty.

As much as you don't want to break up the BC line, Perreault needs to show more soon to avoid consideration of another guy taking his spot there. He's struggling to keep up with the pace and dragging down the line on a lot of their shifts.

Another strong game from Chesley. He's settled into his game nicely.

Coaches need to remind Hutson he has teammates. Far too many attempted toe drags that are getting picked non-stop. You don't want to kill his confidence of course but it's predictable for the opposition.

Fingers crossed that garbage time goal raises Gauthier's goal-scoring confidence. We need him to be more dialed in shooting the puck.

Hopefully whatever flu bug is going around the team runs its course. When key players are having to sit out, you know it's knocking guys on their asses, and there are probably plenty of guys who have been playing sick the last 2 games.

Overall, the mission was accomplished in the round-robin. Far from perfect of course, but they're getting better each game and set themselves up nicely for the knockout rounds getting the #1 overall seed.

Ya I’m as big of a Fowler guy as there is but unless Augustine gets hurt or is sick again, it’s his net for the medal round
It's very hard for the non-NTDP goalie to break into the mix with an NTDP goalie in the mix. Wolf had the same challenge with Knight ahead of him. Wolf was fantastic, but he was competing against a guy that made it his draft year because he was the guy at the NTDP.

Same challenge for Fowler. I'm sure Fowler will end up being a very good pro goalie. He might end up better than Augustine, but it's inherently easier for the NTDP players when it comes to the World Junior team and the non-NTDP players are outsiders that have more of a challenge.

Augustine was terrific. Score looks deceiving because it was close for the first half of the game. Difference was Augustine was great, and Urban was allowing everything he should've and a few he shouldn't have. Augustine's been good in both games. He'll get the net now going forward.

Hutson isn't playing his best, but he's still second in defenseman scoring and not been a train wreck defensively. I can't complain too much. Chesley been good throughout, and his last two games have been especially strong. Pohlkamp continues to play well. Buium had a good game. If he can eliminate the defensive hiccups, I'd up his minutes more and take some away from Fortescue. Fortescue was getting into unneeded scrums and taking dumb penalties. I'd limit his minutes. Casey I still expect more from. Could still be under the weather. Rinzel was better in this game. Dave Starman thinks he's been great all tournament. I don't mind Starman, but he says one or two things per telecast that make absolutely no sense. Another he said today was that Buium reminded him of Leetch.

McGroarty getting going today was big. Gauthier despite all the criticism is third in tournament scoring. Do we keep that first line together? Snuggerud had been better than the other two, but I wouldn't look at it as a demotion. The mix could be better with Snuggerud on Smith's line. Brindley, Howard, and Nazar continues their effectiveness. Haven't liked the fourth line all tournament. Finley has been the best of them, but they've been weak. How useless has Hayes been? We won't be missing much if he's suspended a game.

It's hard to argue with 10-2, but that was like the least convincing 8 goal win you are going to see. It was very close the first half of the game, and then Slovakia gave up and was giving a very weak effort. We've won every game of the pre-tournament and tournament games, and we will probably win every game remaining. We are the best team at this tournament. I don't see how you can say we aren't, but I am not totally confident there's no upset coming. I think Sweden has the best chance.

Only three skaters to not get a point today were Perreault, Casey, and Finley. Rangers, Devils, and Islanders collectively upset and can agree on something for once.

The Rinzel line definitely caught my ear. Insanity.

Are there logical guesses about our gamtime on Wednesday? Is Sweden tied to a specific time cuz they’re home? Asking for my boss…lol

Ya I agree, I also think Fowler let in some softies so he didn’t do himself any favors. I don’t think Fowler is totally comfortable on the Olympic surface either. I’d be curious to know how much experience Fowler has ever had on an Olympic surface. Augustine probably has 20-30 games on it, maybe more. He just looks a lot more comfortable out there playing angles, handling the puck, etc.

Last time i commented here was when i said Team USA looks to be one of the most talented groups ever, if not the most. Got clapped back with "they do stupid mistakes". Well does it really matter if you do stupid mistakes at U20, if you can score 10 goals against the team that was praised as "doing great, might be a dark horse in this tournament"?

The amount of skill in Team USA is incredible this year, i will be surprised if anyone can outscore them. Easily the favorite on any match, only thing that will beat them is some crazy major penalties or clown officials or their goalies letting every shot in.

Lol of course you got clapped at for saying this may be the most talented group ever. That’s absurd.
