Everyone was dogshit in that series except for Kreider. When the team is overmatched like that, it's not worth evaluating individual performances.
True, and I like him a lot, all I'm saying is I'd like to see him have one playoff series for the blue and red where he's not getting dry humped all over the ice before anointing him 1C.

I wish all drafts going forward would stop producing generational players so that Kakko's middle-6 ceiling for a second overall becomes more accepted.
Sometimes it takes time and opportunity

Reinhart wasn’t tearing it up 5v5 at similar ages. Kakko had a strong age 21 season. This year has not been good for whatever reason.

We should not move him imo

Zib stinks, Kreider stinks, Kakko stinks, Goodrow stinks, Wenneberg will stink once he puts the jersey on, Goodrow stinks, Trouba stinks, Lindgren stinks, Drury stinks, Schneider stinks, Gus stinks, Lav stinks, the new medical trainer stinks, the guys serving beers in section 112 stinks, the security lady stealing my vape pen stinks, Joe stinks, Sam stinks, the entire organization sucks except for one forward line. Yet they're in 5th place in the entire league with games in hand on all the teams ahead of them.
Just Goodrow and Trouba and Lindgren stink. Zib is overrated but I wouldn’t say he stinks, he’s just not a great #1 center.

The moderator crew all have full time jobs other than HF. We do the best we can but we don't intentionally let things stand that should be deleted AND, when you respond instead of reporting, you just add to the f***ing chaos.

This means it takes longer to clean up the mess and the post stands up for longer.

Therefore, report the post, don't respond.

Gracias.
No way you have a job

Ok, so are you suggesting that we're going to trade Mika who is a top 2C getting paid $8.5m per year (which will be 2C money soon anyway) for the next 6 years when we are a top 5 team in the league and likely will be in a similar position for the next few years?

Let me save you the suspense. It's not happening unless there is some miracle circumstance that occur, even though I know we have a lot of "smart" people in here who would find a way to make the type of deal that never happens.
You're making it out to be completely unheard of, and it's not. He has 26 even strength goals in his last 143 games. You don't have to be some analytics nerd to see his decline.

Gallant played him less than Quinn did, and Laviolette has reduced his role even more. He's no longer taking matchups (and he still sucks because QoC, as always, is a bunch of dog water). It's a real thing. That's why Trocheck has surpassed him in the lineup.

If the deal "never could happen" it's because of his contract, not because teams don't trade their declining 2C when they're contending.

I'm not sure what your point is. I haven't disputed Mika's role, decline, ice time, matchups, etc.

This is a trade deadline thread and there is zero chance we are trading Mika now. There's maybe a 1% chance this summer.

From Emily’s column:

“One of New York's top targets at center was 26-year-old late bloomer Tommy Novak. The Predators tried holding out to see if they could get a haul for Novak, such as a first-round pick. But Nashville played too well to become a seller, and the Predators decided to make Novak part of their future, inking him to a three-year, $10.5 million deal.

Then New York landed on Wennberg, who should fit in quite well. Wennberg is known for his hockey IQ. He long has been an analytics darling, even though his production has rarely matched up to his underlying numbers. He led all Kraken forwards in ice time and had second-line center responsibilities. Pushed down to a third-line role, he should thrive and will help on the penalty kill.
So what's next for the Rangers? Sounds like they were making a late push on Wednesday to land Guentzel. I know GM Chris Drury was very hesitant about including Kaapo Kakko in a package. New York might not be willing to give up the assets that the Canes (who have a deep prospect pool and could part with a roster player) or the Canucks (who are reportedly trying to engage Boston) can give up. If not Guentzel, it sounds like Frank Vatrano is still an option -- though the Rangers initially balked at Anaheim's high asking price.

I've heard the Ducks offered the Rangers a package deal a few weeks ago that included Henrique and Vatrano for Kakko and a first-round pick. The Rangers clearly thought that was too rich for their liking.”

I also am not making that deal. Would prefer Pacioretty or someone similar for cheap to add to the roster, rather than getting one W just to have a hole elsewhere.

Why not both? Use Kakko to add Buch for 2 years and get patches on the cheap to backfill the 3rd line where he'd be a good fit.

I mean I wouldn’t really want to make that trade either. In the short term you’re patching one hole and creating another one.

Call up Berard for 3RW would be another option. Rangers havent hesitated to plug holes with rookies this year.

If I'm trading Kakko it's part of a package for a long term fix (a Zegras type). Not for a guy like Buch, who would help but almost certainly wouldn't be resigned.

I agree but it’s a major risk. What if he’s called up and doesn’t look ready, like Othmann? Then what?
