I am more than willing to write him off. He hasn't been even 1st line level at 5 on 5 since 2020. He's a major reason we're so mediocre at ES. He might "look" worse this year but besides his actual scoring, basically everything is the same as last year.
We're bad 5 on 5 because Lindgren and Trouba suck eggs and play more than half the game, and Zibanejad hasn't been above average at ES in 4 years. Goodrow is horrific but a tertiary reason for that, he doesn't play enough to be that bad. My problem is that this is probably going to continue because the org probably thinks Lindgren and Trouba are playing fine. They have no ability to evaluate defense.
I guess that's where a lot of my issues come from. It doesn't seem like Drury thinks they're an issue. He certainly didn't think that about Goodrow which is why against all logic we kept him instead of having him f*** off to wherever. Should've never been signed in the first place, and again, we're dearly paying for it.
Drury doesn't f*** up a lot necessarily but when he makes mistakes, they're huge mistakes and they ripple through multiple seasons. The major example being the Buch trade.
