The NHL trade deadline got turned on its head with a flurry of moves Wednesday. But big names like Jake Guentzel are still out there. Here's what we're hearing around the league.

This was a valid suggestion when the next option was Ryan Strome, because sure, nobody trades their 1C.

Mika isn't the 1C anymore. He plays almost two minutes per game less than Trocheck.

I quite honestly believed at the time that Fil was or pretty much just passed him as the 1C. Especially with that line driving the team. His injury was just so huge for this team.

Drury might be operating under the assumption he's got Patches in his back pocket as a last resort. @Rangers in 7 mentioned we are his top choice and I dont think Florida is going to add another forward in their mid 30s after getting Tarasenko.

Also, Trocheck is really good and always has been. He is a moneypuck 1C. So it's not just about shitting on Mika. We have somebody to take that role, and arguably, we have somebody who has.

Ok, so are you suggesting that we're going to trade Mika who is a top 2C getting paid $8.5m per year (which will be 2C money soon anyway) for the next 6 years when we are a top 5 team in the league and likely will be in a similar position for the next few years?

Let me save you the suspense. It's not happening unless there is some miracle circumstance that occur, even though I know we have a lot of "smart" people in here who would find a way to make the type of deal that never happens.

Trocheck does a great job in his role and is signed at a great number. Weird how no one ever brings that up, all we will hear about from here to eternity is the Buch trade.

I know it's cool to hate on Kakko now but I can see him being a good player for us for a long time. He needs a puck carrying/playmaking Center.

He's had Zibs, Bonino and Brodz. He finally started playing well with Brodz, even though he's not a great stylistic fit, and Lavi puts him back with Vegan Fabio.

He needs extended time with a playmaking/puck carrying Center and imo we will see a major improvement

I wish all drafts going forward would stop producing generational players so that Kakko's middle-6 ceiling for a second overall becomes more accepted.

Everyone was dogshit in that series except for Kreider. When the team is overmatched like that, it's not worth evaluating individual performances.

On an offensively devoid team too and coming off a major injury.

If he forces his way here for say, a 4th or 5th or a nothing prospect it's a worthy gamble to play aside Cuylle and Wennberg, especially if Kakko goes in a deal for Tuch, Buch or Guentzel.

If we're trading Kakko, it has to be an offseason move. Trading him now for a RW just means we have to make another trade to replace Kakko.

Buch isn't that much different than Guentzel. He's going to cost a lot to acquire, both because he has that extra year, and because we would need them to retain.

We'd have him for 1.25 years, but then he'd need a new contract at age 30. Drury screwed up badly when he traded Buch. There's no two ways about it. Let's not compound that screw up by trying to undo it.

I think it's glaringly obvious that if the Rangers are going to fill in a top 6 RW spot they're moving at least a 1st or 1st equivalent young player. Between a rental and a guy you'd still have some equity in you take the guy with equity which would be Buch.

OTOH if the Rangers decide to keep that 1st and not to fill that RW spot and go with what they have I'm okay with that too. I kind of had the 1st and 2nd rounders this year earmarked for rebuilding organizational depth as far our defensemen. I also don't think that Guentzel or even Buchnevich are necessarily be all end all's as far as are chances to win a Cup. They might improve those chances a bit but there are no guarantees.

I wonder what the cost is for Duhaime. I'd salivate at a 4th line with Edstrom in the middle and he and Vesey on the opposite wings and Goodrow blasted into the sun.
