  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Im very open to trading Kakko but i think if he is moved for a top 6 upgrade, we see Berard in his 3rd line spot before long. Im also fine with keeping him if nothing materializes. His value will go down this summer though.

You're right that recency bias is a huge part of it, but I think it's fair to criticize a guy making 8.5 mil who isn't doing any of the things that earned him that contract.

Just have to wonder if brass thinks anyone currently in Hartford would help this year. If they did, wouldn't the guy be here already?

Totally fair and warranted to criticize but I think he deserves some leway for his contributions over the course of his career.

The other thing is I dont find it productive to whine about him not being good enough for the last 20 games and spend the whole time saying "we have no chance" because of it. Much of the story is left to be written.

my problem with this is, what's there to snap out of? he's not good at ES. he pretty much hasn't been in 6-7 years. he certainly looks worse and is scoring less but his stats relative to last year are basically identical.

He's gotta shoot more. His overall game hasnt changed but he's not shooting. Its the same stuff we complained about with Panarin last year. I say Mika should shave his head too. Boomerish take, but he is a dad now, the long hair makes him look like a dope. degrom shaved his head and won 2 cy youngs. Panarin shaves his head and hes having his best year ever. Anecdotal but its something lol. Reverse Samson effect

he hasn't been good at 5v5 for years. It's not a one off. His game is predicated on the PP and highly opportunistic/rush offense at 5v5. He's not getting those rush goals this season and is not finding that much PP success. If he gets back to that, good I guess? That'd be better than what we currently have but he should be even better than that IMO

but this is wrong. his shot rate at 5 on 5 this year is nearly identical to the last three years at ES.

23-24: 10.83 iCF/60
22-23: 11.3 iCF/60
21-22: 11.33 iCF/60
20-21: 11.39 iCF/60
19-20: 15.75 iCF/60

19-20 was the last year he really shot much at ES.

he's shooting less on the PP this year and is missing the net way more on it when he does shoot, however.

He's gotta be better, you just gotta have faith he'll figure it out. We know he's extremely capable of being much better than this. An actual scoring wing should help to some degree, but he and Kreider are too one dimensional. Kreider is actually more annoying to me because he thinks he is some skill player now. They both need to shoot the damn puck.

Shot quality isnt there this year.
 
Zibs is a HR hitter. He can't consistently carry/drive the play.

He strikes out 300 times a year but it's tolerated if he hits 40HRs. This season he's not hitting HR's.

I want more consistency on offense from our 1C.

that's the infuriating part. That's what bothers me the most. I know what he's capable of. He can play physical. He can forecheck and be a work horse. He has a great wrist shot. He can get to the slot/middle of the ice... He does none of those things now

I've heard the Ducks offered the Rangers a package deal a few weeks ago that included Henrique and Vatrano for Kakko and a first-round pick. The Rangers clearly thought that was too rich for their liking.

Its frustrating. Senioritis? hard to get inside the heads of these players but I guess they think they can flip a switch in the playoffs. I dont think it's an effort thing. We've talked about it but I do think Laviolette can blender the lines a little easier with Wennberg here. He's a capable 2/3C who can play with good players. Brodz and Goodrow were very much not that.
 
The moderator crew all have full time jobs other than HF. We do the best we can but we don't intentionally let things stand that should be deleted AND, when you respond instead of reporting, you just add to the f***ing chaos.

This means it takes longer to clean up the mess and the post stands up for longer.

Therefore, report the post, don't respond.

Zibanejad just isn't good. The scoring isn't the problem.

Like, I'm sure he'll go on one of his heaters where he shoots 40% for month. He always does. Matter of fact, we might be trending for it to happen in the playoffs like it did in 2022.

Even when he's doing that he's not particularly good. All his good for is his shooting heaters, and he's only passable when he's on one because goals are good. He's useless when he's not on one.

People would trade Mika. Fine. In the cap era, how many contenders have traded their 1C who has significant term remaining?
