It's fantastic for Blue Jackets ownership. They really don't need to spend to the cap and the roster will be loaded for bear regardless.
For the team's contention window, not great. Waddell, who signed the deals, is already regretting not going long term - at least he said so somewhat in jest with respect to Marchenko. But I think he was very serious as well, and the same thinking applies to KJ. The Jackets long term would be much better off with those guys locked up. Now with the cap jumping up, and the two breaking out before signing long term deals, that's like an extra $10m in cap gone between the two of them.

Pretty much any young star locked up long term before the cap jumped up is going to look like a steal compared to Marchenko and KJ on their next deals.
I think everyone recognized the puck skill, but there was so much harping about his puck battles and lack of strength. He's now a very big very strong guy who wins the vast majority of his battles....

No because of their short term. If they had longer term then yes, but for the next 2 years they are amazing but after that both are gonna get paid.

ah hughes a huge 1 consider the term left. not better than Hughes but larkin , , seider, raymond HM. each underpaid by a couple million and lots of term left.

Raymond has another 7 years after this at 8 mill. Deal looks like a complete steal and one of the best in the NHL
