Are Kirill Marchenko and Kent Johnson currently the best contracts in the league ?

Kent Johnson is signed for two more years! I would be angry but you guys deserve some happiness.

It's fantastic for Blue Jackets ownership. They really don't need to spend to the cap and the roster will be loaded for bear regardless.

For the team's contention window, not great. Waddell, who signed the deals, is already regretting not going long term - at least he said so somewhat in jest with respect to Marchenko. But I think he was very serious as well, and the same thinking applies to KJ. The Jackets long term would be much better off with those guys locked up. Now with the cap jumping up, and the two breaking out before signing long term deals, that's like an extra $10m in cap gone between the two of them.

Jack Hughes still has 5 years left on his $8 mil AAV 2nd contract.

Pretty much any young star locked up long term before the cap jumped up is going to look like a steal compared to Marchenko and KJ on their next deals.

the minute I've seen Marchenko at WJHC I knew he was going to be a really good player. GMs obviously had a different opinion...

production for the money is unreal..

I think everyone recognized the puck skill, but there was so much harping about his puck battles and lack of strength. He's now a very big very strong guy who wins the vast majority of his battles....

Homer opinion that Clayton Keller's contract is a great contract, and one of the best in the league. He's locked down at $7.15m for three more years after this. 63 points in 67 games in 21-22, 86 in 82 (tied the franchise record) in 22-23, 76 in 78 last year, and currently at 64 points in 58 games this season. All of those on a team that has difficulty scoring.

Marchenko is going to be a star (already basically is).

Coming into this season I figured he'd be a 30-30 kinda guy, but I underestimated on that. Now i think its more like a 40-40/35-45 kinda guy.

Hes been driving his line last year and this year and just hasn't slowed down at all.

He is currently pacing for 85 points in 79 games. The highest point totals ever by a single CBJ player in a season was Panarin with 87 to put that into perspective.
