I think it was Pepin or someone who said they are in negotiations or close with him

I find it insulting this is John Henry plan

He’s the money guy and in this city winning 70 games and coming in last won’t sell April, May, June, or September

It’s a museum and people only need to see it once - out of town fans won’t sustain

Cora & Breslow seem as surprised as us they are tanking and going with smaller payroll

This is Heywood Sullivan ownership days but they got billions whereas he didn’t have squat

You know as well as I do, though, that Sullivan didn’t need money to snarl his plans. He had axes to grind and they were nubs when he was done with them. It didn’t matter what the consequences to the Sox were. Trading Jenkins and Carbo, relegating Lee to the pen after his protest. Allowing Tiant to go to free agency. Mailing Fisk’s contract one day after the deadline, making him a free agent. Trading Lynn because he was convinced that he was going to walk despite Lynn consistently and repeatedly saying he wants to stay in Boston. All happening between 1976 and 1981. I don’t like the current direction of the team under Henry, but it was a soap opera under Sullivan.

I won’t and have no interest in defending ownership but it’s possible they haven’t been willing to retain because they aren’t getting a good enough return to do so. It’s stupid to retain just to trade him because they don’t need to do that. They’ve been willing to retain on several others so I’d just be surprised.

The Mayer fall has begun?

Sox Prospects: "Suffered a shoulder injury on a slide on May 7, missing a week, but the injury bothered him until he was placed on the injured list in early August, missing the rest of the season. Splits from before and after the injury are drastic, as it appears likely the issue was affecting his performance."

"In 111 plate appearances before the injury, Mayer slashed .337/.414/.582 with 15 extra-base hits and a 21.6% strikeout percentage," according to Ian Cundall of SoxProspects.com. "In 243 plate appearances after, he slashed .190/.256/.366 with 19 extra-base hits and a 25.5% strikeout percentage."

This makes too much sense for Montgomery.

Yup! Incentives, opt outs, try it again next year.

The Sox won't commit to Cora beyond the last year of his deal, and they haven't made any progress in trading Kenley going into the last year of his deal. And conveniently Alex misses the first day of camp with a stomach bug and Kenley isn't going to be throwing due to general soreness?

Yeah, this is going to be the most toxic year since the Bobby V season.

Rangers not willing to sign Montgomery seems ridiculous
Montgomery comp is like Eduardo Rodriguez 4/80 ish from Arizona

Boras using Yankees 2023 Carlos Rondon 6 years $162 M

I really hope Boras overplays his hands and he gets F’d

If owned the Red Sox starting today how I would deal with Boras

All his clients I would go year to year till FA treating fairly using arbitration or agreeing on one year deals

If the player wanted to stay he would have to notify us and we would let them know if interested- if so give us a verifiable last offer

I can not stand him and understand he’s just doing his job but he’s horrible for baseball in my view

I'll always remember Lee's quote from the 1975 Series --

'Sparky Anderson says Don Gullett is going to the Hall of Fame after the World Series. I'm going to the Eliot Lounge. '
Exactly my first thought

I did a weekend trip to SLC last year, it was a nice town and a baseball team would be great there.

Ideal solution is A's to Vegas and Rays to SLC. Marlins change back to being Florida and play the majority of their games in Miami but do homestands in Tampa and Orlando to broaden appeal throughout the state and fill the hole.

Ya, everyone can keep pretending it was all injury related. That's not how evaluators see it.
That is horrifying

I’m pretty disgusted by the Sox overall but there are stories and players I’m interested in

Mayer is at the top of the list I want to watch

Wow these ratings are all over the place

I used to be a fan of miliken but he’s become a Felger & Mazz ball washer

He’s infected

Can’t wait for games to see these guys

Longenhagen doesn’t think Mayer stays at SS iirc. I believe he’s pretty much on an island with that evaluation, but it could explain the lower ranking when compared to the other outlets

It's fine being down on Mayer after the year he's had, even if it may have been affected by his shoulder issues. But ranking him in the 60-range is laughable. I think Longenhagen is trying to prove something here. I haven't read from anyone else that Mayer was a sieve in the field and/or was a lock to move off the position. Until proven otherwise, he should be valued as a SS and with that in mind, that's higher than 69.

I don't care about these ranking anymore. It's just fine as currency if you want to trade these guys. Always good if someones hyping them up. Nobody gave Bogaerts much of a chance to make the majors as a SS, let alone sticking at the position for 10+ years while being adequate there.

The guys I trust the most on our prospects is soxprospects, they are actually covering them full time. national writers do not, it's simply not possible.
