He is who I want from this draft
He's still the #1 Dman in the draft to me. Levshunov, then Silayev, then Dickinson.
The only knock on Levshunov I see so far is he's the 3rd oldest player in the first round according to 2024 NHL Mock Draft with Lottery Simulator | Tankathon but that also means he should only need a year in the AHL before arriving to the NHL because he's older and more physically developed than Dickinson. He's an inch shorter than Dickinson but is heavier.

I like that just like Minty he's playing in North America in his draft year so there is no KHL issue.
With Silayev there is unfortunately KHL waiting time for him to arrive but dude is an inch taller than Pronger.

I’m not brave or desperate enough to make a tank thread before Christmas, but the team that was being debated as having the worst roster in the salary cap era is suddenly 4 points back of the Ducks

If we win the lottery this year we must take Celebrini.

Celebrini/Carlsson/Zegras on the top line would be the most exciting line in the whole league.

Currently turd in the standings based on percentage points. Still sticking with my preseason prediction of 6-8.
Still hoping for Eiserman. A guy with a bedard like shot that can just put away Zegras/McT/Carlssons slick passes would be a dream.

Dobber Prospects has Eiserman dropping to 5th.

Ya still expecting somewhere in the 5-10 range. As long as it’s top 10 I think we still get another top line potential piece.

Eiserman didnt get invited to team USA... Seems like his stock is falling a lot because he is one dimensional.

We need that type of skill set so bad. If he’s not a two way phenom it’ll be ok. We need a guy who can be a legitimate scoring threat whenever the puck touches their stick.

More often than not one way guys like that fail at the NHL. When was the last time a top 10 pick was used on a legit 1-way guy and it worked out?

It’s the reason Caufield was not a top 10 pick.

How many teams that picked top 10 in 2019 wish they would have gone Caufield? Probably 2-3. I get the risk, but that’s something this team needs to address. If it’s not through the draft then trades or FA. We need a scorer, Pastujov and siderov are our only hopes and they are long shots.

You forgot about Perreault. When we drafted him, he was a one-dimensional player who lacked work ethic on the defensive end - kinda like Kaliyev. Difference between Pastujov and Sidorov with Perreault is that Perreault has jets.

A surprising scorer to keep an eye on is Ben King. The knock on him when drafted was his skating. Has it improved? No idea b/c he was injured for most of last year.

Speaking of the 2019 draft, the Oiler's 8th overall pick wants to be traded.

That doesn’t prove anything. There are a ton of players outside the top 10 that would go ahead of players picked top 10 that year.

The point is one way guys are super high risk and often don’t pan out and pretty much never go top 10.

And you don’t NEED a 50 goal scorer to win the cup.

Caufield dropped as much for his size than anything else. If he was 4 inches taller like Eiserman is, he would have been a top 10 pick for sure.

True, which is why Eiserman is still projected as a top 5 pick and not top 15 like Caufield.

I just think he is way more risky then your typical top 5 level prospect.
If he pans out then he would be perfect for the Ducks. He doesn't need to be a line driver.

But do you guys really want to spend a top 5 pick on a guy who is so risky?

Is he risky because he's bad defensively or because there are some concerns he may not amount to anything? one of those is far more concerning than the other.

Once this thread starts turning into a tank thread that's when we need a tank thread created.
I was all for the tank in years past because we just needed the talent. This year im in win now mode because the better we play reflects on how well all of the young kids on the roster are playing. Id gladly lose 5 or 10 spots in the draft to show we aren't that far off as a team.

Just need to find 1 more legit winger that can actually score, in my opinion.

Yep. We have enough 2nd and 3rd line grinder types. Need skill/scoring with the first pick.

With many defensemen showing up early, there's gonna be talented, scoring forwards available later in the top-10 and teens. I started looking at forwards in the 20s who might jump up into the teens, where I think we'll probably pick, which is why I've focused on Finnish RW Emil Hemming. With us losing more, we can shift back to looking at Helenius (small forward) and Lindstrom (big forward) in the top-10... or a falling Eiserman.

We found two 1Cs in big Mac and big Carl. That a humongous win for the org! Finding wingers is easier than finding 1C's.

2019 Zegras F
2020 Drysdale D
2021 McTavish F
2022 Mintyukov D
2023 Carlsson F

2024 is a big high end D draft and looking at our drafting history we will take a D.

Yes we need a winger but our defence still sucks and our prospect pool isnt full of sure things. Lybushkin, Fowler & Gudas will all be gone within 3 years and Drysdale is now an unknown with his injuries.

Lyubushkin is an UFA after this season.

Common configuration on the ice: 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 1 goalie.
Common 23-man roster: 14 F, 7 D, and 2 G

The case for not drafting a D-man in the first round.
  • 2022-23, First 25 games
    • Total GF = 63 ... (2.52 GF/game)
    • Total GA = 106 ... (4.24 GA/Game)
    • PPG = 12 out of 75 opportunities (16.0% PP eff)
    • PKGA = 31 out of 89 opportunities (65.2% PK eff)
    • Non-ST GF: 51 GF
    • Non-ST GA: 75 GA

  • 2023-24, First 25 games
    • Total GF = 69 .... (2.76 GF/game)
    • Total GA = 87 ... (3.48 GA/game)
    • PPG = 18 out of 81 opportunities (22.22% PP eff, 11th overall)
    • PKGA = 22 out of 110 opportunities (80.0% PK eff, 15th overall)
    • Non-ST GF: 51 GF
    • Non-ST GA: 65 GA
Anaheim hit jackpot in the 2022 draft with Mintyukov and Luneau. Luneau is essentially a first round pick talent. Anaheim's been hitting the jackpot with d-men since 2019 draft.

2019: Rd 2. LD/RD LaCombe, Rd 4. LD Thrun (traded to Sharks for a 2024 3rd round pick)
2020: Rd 1. RD Drysdale, Rd 3. RD Moore (still in college, a stay-at-home D)
2021: Rd 2. LD/RD Zell (WHL DotY x2, CHL DotY), Rd 3. LD/RD Hinds (stay-at-home D)
2022: Rd 1. LD MIntyukov (OHL DotY), Rd 2 RD Warren, Rd 2 Luneau (QMJHL DotY)

Drysdale, Mintyukov, and Luneau are all identified as offensive d-men. At the very least, Anaheim just needs to find complementary defensive d-men. Hinds, Warren, and Moore are defensive d-men. LaCombe is your two-way D.

Minty, LaCombe, and Luneau made their rookie debut into the NHL this season, their first pro season (NHL or AHL). They're part of the reason why our GA and PK has improved this season.

Zellweger and Hinds are developing in the AHL. Warren still in juniors and was invited to team Canada's WJC invitation camp.

------

That case for drafting a scoring forward in the first round.

Our top-6
Zegras - McTavish - xxx
xxx - Carlsson - Terry

1. We have problems scouting forwards beyond the top-10.
2. We have no surefire scoring forward that scream top-6 in our system today.
3. With the presumed loss of Rico (our 8th best scorer on the team), we are going to lose an NHL talent.

There's a lot of promise in our defensemen at the NHL level (Drysdale, Minty, LaCombe, and Luneau), AHL level (Zell and Hinds), and lower (Warren and Moore). There isn't a lot of promise in forwards in the AHL level or lower.

Sure, Sidorov is looking great, but we had a prospect just like Sidorov in Pastujov - amazing scorer, but slow skater. Pastujov is struggling in the AHL this year. We have a sniper in Perreault, but he's still working the kinks out in the AHL. The same goes for Tracey, still working it out in the AHL. Our 33rd pick in 2023, Myatovic, is out indefinitely due to LBI. Hvid the kid has gone through two injuries already in this early season. NCAA Kukkonen has been a dud this year. Colangelo is having a bounce back season, but nothing amazing.

I actually think we need both. The team still desperately needs at least one winger who can put the puck in the net 35 times per season, but they also need better bottom six players. And the guys in the AHL aren't looking like they're going to be the Nick Roy, JT Compher, Anthony Cirelli types.

There's still hope for Gaucher, I suppose, but the team could really use one or two of its later round forward picks to pan out to an above average 3rd line NHL player.

Team is good at finding Dmen anywhere in the draft but struggles to get much out forwards drafted in late 1st and beyond.

Seems to be that teams with franchise 1Cs and 1Ds also tend to have a 1W
Colorado: Rantanen
Vegas: Stone
Boston: Pasternak
Pittsburgh: Guentzel
Washington: Ovi
Tampa: Kucherov

Only one of those was acquired via trade. Eiserman could be Anaheim's Pasternak.
