One if my son's buddies is draft eligible this year. G Carter George fir the Owen sound attack. Kid was a freak growing up. Putting up good numbers this year too. Would love to see the Wings get him in the system to be able to snag some wings swag eventually 🤣

It's only highlights but Lukas Fischer looks realgud. Seems to fall into that category of big, mobile, ultra athletic dmen these days.

Also liking what Liam Greentree was showing off there.
I think with his size/profile/age eventually Lukas will play himself into the first round, but if not I’d be more than happy to take him in the second.

Would also enjoy seeing a bunch of people cry about it being a nepo pick without seeing 1 second of him play, lol.

I have not had hardly any time to watch any of the players for this draft, and I doubt that will change between now and the actual draft.

But here are some players I created threads for on the prospect forum and have been tracking and find interesting:

Will Felicio at eliteprospects.com - Smaller offensive defenseman, going to U of Denver, could become a good player with some patience

Aatos Koivu at eliteprospects.com - Son of Saku Koivu, has recently started getting some buzz in Finland

Quinn Kennedy at eliteprospects.com - Started the season slow, but has been on a tear in the Q recently. HP was very complimentary on him in their Black Book last year.

Alfons Freij at eliteprospects.com - Defenseman who has been pretty productive over so far this year, fits the mold of players we have drafted from Sweden

Eric Bürger at eliteprospects.com - Smaller Swedish defenseman who has put up some points in U20 and also gotten some SHL games

Now i had the time to really dig in to this draft class, Red Wings offense is still soft and going through these potential 1st round picks, Cayden Lindstrom popped up couple times.

There's the "Tom Wilson" what Wings need, not much praise for his IQ but there is a hole for a B-52 bomber.

I doubt Alfons Freij will be available when we draft, but maybe we can move up and select him. Our defense is trending to be the clear strength of this team so I can see trying yet again to draft a center but we missed the boat on drafting a top 6 center when we had the chance. We have plenty of mid centers, so I'd like to see us either draft another top 4 d-man or a scoring line winger.

Forget scouting players. Our scouting staff should just scout Dallas and Anaheim’s scouting staff. See who they’re high on.

Requires further explanation (unless you are talking about Zegras who will be flexed to the wing if he hasn't already).

If you were focused more on offense than two way play, you could have drafted Savoie (90+ points in the WHL in his draft year + another 90+ point season last year). The point here isn't to say we missed out on a specific player, it's more to say we purposely drafted guys who were more known for their two way play than skill.

That's fine, so long as we acquire skill on the wing and continue to build out what looks to be one of the best young group of defensemen in the NHL.

While I like Savoie, I see his future on the wing at the NHL level (at least if you want to play him up the roster). I definitely agree though that we need to inject more skill through the wing position in the top six in a perfect world. True centers with truly elite offensive skill are not regularly available outside of the very top of the draft in my experience. I can't fault us for not landing one at 9. They are very rare and hard to come by.

Given how this season is going, I will take as much offensive skill as we can get regardless of position (including defensemen) where we are drafting. I guess this is a good problem to have.

The two Finnish forwards are interesting to me (Helenius and Hemming).

I also like Iginla and Catton out of the WHL a good deal.

No more D. We need a high ceiling, skilled forward with our 1st pick. Wingers are fine. High end skill is what’s missing from this team.

I’d target guys like Greentree, Artamonov, Iginla, Basha. I really like what I’ve read and seen about Basha especially.

I think this is a super dangerous approach that causes one to overrate the quality of the available forwards. I have zero issues drafting another defensemen or center because defensemen and centers actually have trade value. Besides, anyone we draft isn't going to be sniffing the Wings roster (let alone contributing meaningfully) for at least 3 or 4 years. They aren't the cure for our current offensive troubles. The days of drafting in the top 10 are over for us.

If the Wings are checking in on Shai Buium and aren’t very impressed by what his brother Zeev is going, I’d be surprised.

He’s having a very impressive season in the NCAA for a defenseman in their draft season, I keep expecting to see him climb the rankings more than he has.

I get it, but this is a fantastic draft for defensmenan IMO. We should have went more forward heavy last year.

It still drives me crazy we passed on Heidt three times in the second round. Absolutely predictable that kid would be excellent.
