Alexander Zetterberg.

Mark it.
I am all for this draft pick but will he be available?

I think he would be, he’s pretty small, have not seen him ranked that high as of yet.

KHL level is so down, when almost all the foreigners refused to sign there.

Seems to be that many U18 kids fill those depleted rosters, and can break some records, when the quality of competition has crashed down.
Still a very low number of U18 and U19 players playing in the KHL though.

Not sure how this would/could impact the Wings but Ottawa is losing a 1st round pick.

Ottawa Senators docked first-round pick for Evgenii Dadonov trade fiasco

“Ottawa will forfeit its first-round draft pick in one of the 2024, 2025 or 2026 drafts. The determination as to which pick will be forfeited will be made by Ottawa within 24 hours of the conclusion of the draft lottery for that year,” the league said in a statement.

The Senators have two first round picks in 2024, including one from the Detroit.

The Knights were under the impression that Dadonov hadn’t entered a 10-team no trade list while he was with the Senatoes before the 2021-22 campaign so he no longer had one. The NHL confirmed that wasn’t the case and vetoed the deal that would have sent him the Ducks.

A lot of good defenseman with size in this '24 draft.

Will our scouting staff be able to resist the temptation? My bet is no.

They usually go towards forwards in "good defencemen" -draft.
We need to stop doing that. You don’t have to zig when everyone else zags.

That’s how you get Zadina instead of Hughes/Dobson/Bouchard.

Take advantage of the strength of what the draft class has to offer.

Nor should they. If the available defensemen are demonstrably better than the available forwards, take the defensemen and move one later. Defensemen always have value in the trade market.
Especially now that we have two bona-fide top line scoring forwards. Scoring is still a need but not a big enough need to override a possible elite defenseman. We're kind of in a place where none of our needs are glaring, there's just things we'd prefer more of.

That being said this top line scorer is addicting. I want more!

I would add: A. I have zero clue where the Wings will be drafting, ZERO, B. whoever we draft is not hitting the Wings roster until 27-28 at the absolute earliest. I absolutely love the draft and amateur hockey, but it isn't about real-time roster building at this point. People need to be realistic. We are already seeing disappointment driven by unrealistic expectations of Danielson and Kasper being NHL ready.

I think we need to add some high upside forwards to the pipeline. If someone like Perreault drops again we need to be all over it. We have our two way centers and defenseman. We need to take some swings on skilled forwards.

Yeah, we need some swing-for-the-fences picks. None of this hoping we get the next Ryan Kesler, we need the next Kucherov.

Yes for drafting on higher upside players, who are less likely to make it

No for drafting a bunch of 3rd pairing defenseman in the 2nd round, who you can pick up in UFA anyway

Losing Ryan Rezmierski to the ducks really stung. He’s the defense drafting guru.

But look at the defenders we picked in 2023. I’m willing to bet that any from the 2nd round or later play zero games.
Pretty sure he was still with us through this last draft.

I think you’re stressing out about nothing.

Also as I’ve said many times on here, scouting is usually a highly collaborative process, 1 person isn’t generally the only one responsible for a pick happening.

There are some interesting overagers out there that might be worth looking at.

Anthony Romani at eliteprospects.com - Center with decent size who has really put things together in his +1 season

Jesse Pulkkinen at eliteprospects.com - 6'6" defenseman named Pulkkinen... sign me up

Svante Sjödin at eliteprospects.com - Was the youngest you could possibly be for last year's draft, have seen some clips of him, kid looks like a +++ skater if nothing else.

Lucas Lagerberg Hoen at eliteprospects.com - +2 player, but he has a good track record for producing offense, including putting up offense in the Allsvenskan this year

https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/794506/pavel-moysevich - 6'5" goalie doing well in the VHL, also has gotten some action in the KHL
