Toffoli has made it clear what his priorities are at this point in his career. Winning is unimportant. What matters is getting paid as much as possible in a comfortable market with no pressure.
I'll be honest... I've been in my career 21 years and at this point, I'm nowhere near as motivated as I was when I was a young buck to grow my business

Toffoli already won his cup. I have nothing against him playing out his career in a nice place with no pressure. I'm kinda jealous, actually lol. Sounds like a nice arrangement

And I didn't make a judgement, just commenting on his priorities as I see them. Hell living in Southern California making $4 M a year playing a game isn't the worst way to make a living.

Then you likely will have to trade him. These guys know the game. You go max term and then if you get bought out at the end you still get 2/3 of the salary the last year or 2 then you can sign where you want cheap. Term is king in your late 20s and early 30s.

Yes, they know the game. They try to get the contracts structured to make them immune to buyouts. So far Chevy has managed to avoid this, but it is becoming the norm.

I trade him before going longer than that. I hope Chevy won't go longer than that either. I doubt he trades him. Certainly not if they are in a strong PO position.

Anything is possible but who do you see Chevy getting for him under those circumstances? What team is going to give up an equally productive player in exchange? Chevy won't accept futures, not even near ready ones. I just don't see it. That leaves the own rental path.

I think keeping Ehlers as a rental even if he won't sign is the way. Who cares about a late 1st that will be ready once our hall of fame goalie is in his late 30s.

The jets have a real shot at a cup this year and Ehlers is a big part of that

Haha. Same here....but I'm guessing we are both older than 32.

For 50% more and living in California I'd probably tell my partner to pack up her and the kids if they want to come with me, I'm outta here either way! Lol!

7 points in 2 games. 0 points in the other 4. If he could be consistent he is a core player on this team.
He's still. So. Young.

This is his second full nhl season. I think as his body and mind adapts to the grind of an nhl season he will become more consistent.

LOL.... He "decided to come" as opposed to what? Retiring?
I think that if he was absolutely dead-set against it, Chevy probably wouldn't have made the deal. Last thing you need is to bring in a guy who is absolutely dead set against being here *cough cough Kevin Hayes cough*

He would be poison in the room

You think Ehlers' TD value is way below that of Andrew Copp?

I see Montreal offering him a big contract to reunite him with Laine, and giving Laine a reason to stay long-term if they so choose. I hope and expect Ehlers to re-sign, but Chevy is a grinder, and we don't know what's going on.

dreger on overdrive was talking about how hard it is to get guys to winnipeg and mentioned that toffoli wasn't happy when he was being told but ultimately was a pro and decided to come, also said that chevy probably has 100's of stories like that...
We're #1, in the standings and in the No Trade Clause. I imagaine a lot of players who are in the travel friendly East aren't to thrilled to leave their families, come North, and then go on Western road trips.

If you polled the players wives California would probably be top 3 in destinations.

Ehlers should decide his future here. If he plays his heart out, and then chooses to play somewhere else after the season ends, he'll still get an ovation and cheers every time he is on the ice.

Aavco also game for the "give Ehlers matching deals to 55/37" plan:

I hope the Jets consider it.
Why does Aavco need someone to do his bidding? He was a really good poster around here and he is as far as a I know allowed to post here in the future. And if someone wants to follow him he is easily enough to follow on Twitter (X). Having someone post for him breaks the key aspect of a fan board of questioning each other.

Exactly what "shit" are you talking about?

Or is he above criticism
It's the same old crap. The same line.
EHLERS isn't perfect He does make mistakes and sometimes they are frustrating. He does deserve criticism when deserved. It's also blatantly false to say some of the forum posters who blame him for every failing this team has spread their criticism evenly to other players.
If yu don't see this, perhaps you are one of them.
To why I said the comment, some of the posters for years have begged for him to be traded due to them not valuing what he brings to the team.
Don't expect great trade value from a player you don't respect on your team.
Maybe his value is less than Copp based on your horse blinders.

Can you give specific examples?

There isn't a single poster on here that blames him for every failing this team has had. Not one. That's pure horseshit
