They've built forward depth, one reason Lycksell is in LHV is he can't break into the top 9 right now, and they don't want him playing 8 minutes a night on the 4th line (Cates, Poehling, Hathaway all play on the PK as well).

At least check these things out before resorting to platitudes.

The difference between Hathaway (lowest lineup constant) and Luchanko is just over a minute of 5v5 time per game. The only player anywhere near 8 minutes is Deslauriers. This team rolls lines. You can expect about a minute difference between 3rd and 4th lines. Couturier only plays 4 mins/night more than the 4th line. It’s a non-issue.

That "8 minutes on a 4th line" bit comes up every year as a reason why no prospect can ever play on the 4th line, and every year the 4th line plays well more than that.

And gee, if you improve the 4th line with some prospect instead of Deslaurier's bloated carcass, then you can play the 4th line more, too.

My assumption with Frost is that they will extend him for 1 year and trade him by next year's deadline. Luchenko will either make it next year or the year after and they will likely get a center in the draft that may be able to play in the near future. Does anyone think differently?

There's a lot of contrast of opinions on Frost, of course, but barring all the nuances, I'm curious as to what people actually want to do with him going forward. Some more basic questions though just for discussion:

Where does he fit for you in this lineup going into a future past this season? 1C? 2C? 3C? LW?

What kind of contract would you be looking to sign with him after this year?

What are some comparables, if off the top of your head, as a player and as a contract?

I'm not really sure what the reasonable scenarios are with his contract going forward here, but I do know that we already have a bunch of shit ones.

I personally think Frost would be a great 3C on a cup team, can play up the lineup and on the PP. Can be in that 40-60 pt space consistently if given a leash.

I used to think the Flyers would never, ever do anything innovative, but playing 3 4Cs at once is definitely something.

Frost will be yo-yoed all season and his trade value will be nothing. They will probably sign him to a 1-yr deal, but Luchenko may make next year even harder.

Frost is the perfect example of the Flyers' poor development.

He had the best scoring wings on the team last season and regressed offensively.
His top speed is below NHL average so far this season.

I think he gets dinged easily, and they don't report those injuries - last year he had a slow start, including slow top speed, then improved as the season went along - which suggests he got healthier.

He may simply be one of those guys who only plays well in spurts, when he's close to 100% physically, because his game is predicated on quickness and speed.

One can disagree about how good of a player frost is or can be, or even how much rope he deserves. That’s not a problem to me.

But for anyone to say Frost’s development hasn’t been poor is insane to me. His ice time is routinely given to other skaters, they put him in positions where he’s not going to be effective (net front in powerplay for example), he’s given linemates that cannot capitalize on his skills. Hell, last year at this time he had played less games than he had been scratched for.

This coach clearly doesn’t value his game. If it wasn’t apparent last year it’s certainly my apparent now. Nothing is going to get better for Frost unless Torts is gone or he is with another organization.

I will never not love the Flyers hard-on on trying to minimize player's faulty attributes instead of maximizing their positive skills. Get him as close to average as possible! Fares amazing.
