You'd really have to question Kyle Davidson if he signed Guentzel to a big 7 year contract.

I can't see it happening.

7 years no thanks.

I like Guetzel but not for that term.

I’d do 5 years, doubt he would though.

Alright so we don’t want Guentzel, fine. So post your ideas on who we’re signing at what amount and for how long to make sure Bedard isn’t alone.

The twist; it has to be realistic. None of this offering a top free agent 3 years nonsense I keep seeing.

Timeline doesn’t fit but Jake would be a great get to go with bedard
I’ll be honest, if we get 5 years of PPG production out of Guentzel, it’s worth it. And it’s not like we have a glut of players to pay at this point. The only contract coming up in the next two years with a big raise is Bedard. Nobody else has proven anything. It doesn’t affect the cap structure at all.

Arvidsson 3x5
Domi 2x4
Kane 2x6.5
Roslovic 3x4
Tuevo 4x5.5
Stephenson 5x5.5
Henrique 3x4.5

Are realistic options IMO

The only realistic options you posted are Kane and Henrique. All the other players will get way more term. This isn’t like last year. The cap went way up and will do so again next year. GMs will be willing to give out big deals.

going off this

I would do Stephenson for 6.25 X 6 (overpay by a year and 750K more than most projections) to be the #2C until hopefully a prospects pushes him down the lineup in a couple of seasons where a 3C making 6.25 after the cap goes up again next Summer and the 2c is on an ELC is not a big deal. Kane for 2 (or even 3 where the 3rd can be a LTIR retirement present if his play falls off) makes a ton of sense for both sides. Kane and Bedard would be filth on the PP and play them on seperate lines 5 on 5 and you have a decent chance of actually building 2 lines to not allow teams to focus on shutting down Bedard because the rest of lineup is utterly impotent. Get a 2 way winger with a little grit and a RHD that can maybe run a PP, and this would be a fun team to watch. Still not playoff good, but not putrid.

I don't mind throwing a bag at Guentzel. We aren't in the position Toronto was in when they added Tavares where we have an established core to pay yet and he can be a contributor while helping Bedard grow. You make it work for a player of his caliber and we probably have like 5 years of not having to worry about the cap unless we get even more dramatic than just Guentzel which I doubt. Unless KD has some serious intel that he can sit out the big splash and make one in 2025 like Marner or Rantanen there isn't much reason to avoid Guentzel other than being too risk-averse.

would love to go get Guentzel, wouldn’t be an issue for a few years cap wise and if it turns into an issue it’s because our prospects have panned out in which case we can cross that cap hell bridge when we get there

Seems way more political than for hockey reasons, which I think is a mistake.
I just think they don't want to have to re-break people's hearts if they were to ship him out again. It is a bit of a marketing/PR nightmare.

Also, it seems like Patty still desires chasing Lord Stanley, which I commend. so, I hope he goes on to find more success.

I doubt it's that at all. If they signed him they probably wouldn't trade him especially considering the limited return they got last time.

I think it's because of his attachment with the 2010 Kyle Beach thing and it's a bullshit PR move more than anything else. Maybe there's some aspect of wanting a fresh locker room but that's dumb as well when there's 15 AHL/NHL tweener talents in our lockerroom as of now.

If we don't get Kane back, don't draft Demidov, and trade (and sign) for Necas, Imma be pissed.

It would be like management is crossing off a list of things I don't want.

You don’t have to worry about Necas. Reports are they want a budding superstar since they view him as such, not a bunch of pucks and prospects. We have nothing to offer them that matches that.

I am fine with throwing a bunch of $ at him if he signs 3-4 year deal. Overpaying $ wise for that woudln't be bad for Hawks

5-7 years = Nope

In end though I would rather bring back Teravainen
Yeah I’ll pass on Teuvo. Good player but we are gonna end up like the 2010s Oilers if we accumulate a bunch of small guys up front

I would take an elite talent like Kane or even the Cat back but other than that we need to get an edge to play with Bedard. He did best with Foligno. I like the Joshua idea he can be like Maroon was for Macdavid early on
