Sandlin and Gimenez for Horwitz is fine on paper. Sandlin has good K numbers but poor BB numbers.

The issue is money (unless something like a Bo deal is next).

So they’re going to be paying Gimenez $24M a year while haggling with and likely losing Vladdy (and Bichette) because Atkins wants to focus on “responsible sustainability”?

Cool.

Horwitz has 360 career at bats vs almost 2000.... same batting average, one player is a 3 time gold glover and younger... salary? Who cares. One is proven and plays with a premium glove. If this was the only move I'd be disappointed but surely it isn't.

Stating Horwitz is the better player is pretty premature... considering he's worse defensively, older, and has yet to have a season as good as Gimenez.

Horwitz had more fWAR per game last season as a rookie than Gimenez did last year. It was close though and given Horwitz is a year older I'm willing to call them equal players. Horwitz has an extra year of control, is way cheaper and most importantly has the offense we desperately need. Sandlin's not even close to enough to make up for it and sounds like we're giving up more too

Big whopping 9 Hr with a .250 avg.

Makes a cool catch here and there.

Horowitz has better offensive stats in every single category.

We are now a weaker hitting team. We are a legit joke

Rogers cares about money. $24M could be much more wisely spent.

Maybe. Time will tell. It's alot of money if nothing else is moved around, I don't disagree. We have been waiting weeks for any news from the Jays, things will still happen to change the landscape of the team.

I was not a happy fan the last 2.5 seasons or so... so I'm as skeptical as anyone. Baseball off season just moves in it's own time.

That trade is a pure win IMO, we just dealt a 40-man DH type without pop for a starting middle infielder. The money isnt insane for a market of our size and it puts us in play to be able to go get Teo/Santander and have a clearly upgraded lineup.

Horwitz is also not going to be in the lineup everyday by virtue of him being a strict platoon hitter.
