Jays could be trying to sign free agents and filling spots they need, literally get a jump start on other teams instead they're chasing this Soto crap, and could potentially lose out on free agents they need once Soto picks a team and then those other teams sign those FA Jays need. Just like when they chased Ohtani and then lost out on other FA, and had no plan B or C or D, went with whatever was left and that worked out so well.... Just done with this management group wish they were gone before last season, sucks that Rogers is keeping them around for their last year of contract. And unfortunately fans just kept going to games and filling Rogers pockets because of the renovations, so they have no need to fire Shatkins, the fans attending the games last season are to blame just as much.

Is it ok if I start to panic now?

On a serious note, if the Mets get Soto, the Yankees are likely to spend (maybe Bregman?).

So what does a good offseason look like for us? Uber optimistically we get Burnes and Santander and a closer? More realistically we get Eavoldi, O’Neill and Kirby Yates?

I don’t care what it costs at this point, sign Soto and lock up at least 2 of Burnes, Freid, Tanner Scott, Jeff Hoffman, or Estevez.

Tyler O’Neil to the O’s for 3 years $49.5M

Looks like Santander will be our main target when Soto signs elsewhere.

I wouldn't have liked that contract for the Jays, so I'm ok with the O's giving it to him.

My biggest concern is that Schneider spent all of last season throwing lefties at O'Neil, and I'm not convinced he's learned how stupid that is.

It’s a little higher than I thought he’d get, but not much. Thought he’d be in the $14-15M AAV range.

Surprised he went to the O’s though, clearly a Santander replacement, but I thought they have more than enough options coming up to take that spot. Is that a sign they plan to spend like big boys going forward under the new ownership? Or have they given up on a Burnes return? Seems more likely the former unfortunately.

Oh yeah, the amount for O'Neil doesn't really surprise me. I just thought from the start that a team would regret the contract they give him since he's a borderline starter at best against righties.

Didn't expect Adames to come off the board that early.

Still a couple viable targets out there. Santander, i saw a couple people float Alonso though i'm not sure how that fits with Vlad at 1B. Perma DH?

Even a couple of options together i would still consider a winning offseason. If you could get say a Joc Pederson and Michael Conforto, that would be pretty solid from a need/fit standpoint.

If you get Alonso, Vlad is playing 3B more than you probably want him to. Not saying I'm a no on Pete Alonso but he probably rotates DH and 1B with Vlad with Vlad also play 3B when you need to get Springer more ab's at DH.

I like Walker too, though that definitely forces Vlad to 3B a lot, probably even more than if they signed Alonso

Vlad sucks at 3rd we tried it once and didn't work he's not getting better at it older now.

If Springers bat doesn’t rebound he’ll just get days off instead of DH days.

I disagree. Yes, we all are getting older but he is only 25 going on 26. Still one of the youngest players on the roster. Josh Donaldson was great at 3rd when he was 29, 30. Vladdy can play 3rd adequately, we don't need him to a gold glover.

Hopefully your right and I'm wrong then if they do move forward with that option. I just don't think he's got the range personally. I'll add having Bo beside him would not help the D.

Maybe I'm wrong but I wouldn't wanna bet on him as the regular 3B myself.

There's definitely some risk there, but I think it would be worth it to add a good bat. Vlad would have to accept that they're giving him a chance to play where he wants and if he can't cut it he's going to have to DH a lot.
