Pack it in on Soto, trade Vladdy, Bo, Gausman and Bassitt and start again.

Signing Santander would be a mistake most likely.

I have a bad feeling Atkins is going to further bury this team

At this rate they may as well burn it down. They are the worst team in the division right now.

Personally I am 100% fine with starting the season with Clement at 3B and Will Wagner at 2B no matter what the rest of the roster looks like.

And Kirk is clearly a starting catcher. They could use a better backup, though.

I should have written all they need to contend for the AL East.

If in those farmer Blue Jays were outfielders like, for example,Teoscar Hernandez, then I think it's possible that the Jays simply meant that their entire outfield focus was on Soto. Again using Teoscar as an example, there is a little reason to talk about anything other than the Jays outfield focus when talking to him and his agent unless the agent happens to represent a player at another position that the Jays are interested in.

I see the "insiders" were wrong again. Remember Soto was going to make up his mind by the weekend? I guess short 2-3 day windows of pressure articles and tweets from insiders (Boras) to keep trying to pressure the Mets to up their offer.

Not going to lie, if the Jays miss on Soto and we can't find a trade for a top tier bat, this is definitely one path to consider. The Jays are desperate for Soto and for good reason.

I'd want to keep Vlad though unless the package is insane.

Vlad has one more year of team control. Depending on what the Marx Brothers do, it might be time to trade the Gold Dust Twins if they aren't going to surround them with talent. And you do it before the season starts and a guy gets hurt. They either get the payroll up to 250 million or take a blowtorch to it. Pretty simple. And make a f***ing decision about Vlad and Barb Bichette - who needs to move to 2nd.

MLB free agency notes: What we’re hearing about the Orioles and Mets’ pitching pursuits - The Athletic

Re-signing Burnes would not cost the Orioles a draft pick; it would just keep them from gaining one in the 30s in addition to another they could receive for free-agent outfielder Anthony Santander. The problem for Baltimore is that one or more of the big-market losers for Juan Soto figures to pivot to Burnes, with — forgive the expression — money to burn.

Then again, say the New York Mets land Soto. The New York Yankees might seek to boost their offense rather than add to their rotation. Burnes might not want to join the Toronto Blue Jays. At that point, the Orioles would be up against the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants and maybe others. They still would be long shots for Burnes, but might stand a chance.

Last thing on the Orioles: According to sources, they were highly competitive for free-agent right-hander Clay Holmes, who had big interest before agreeing to a three-year, $38 million deal with the Mets.

The Red Sox, Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies were among the other teams in the mix for Holmes, sources said. The Jays and Phillies viewed Holmes as a reliever. The Orioles, like the Mets, intended to use him as a starter. The Red Sox’s plans were unclear.
