Okay, so if I'm CMac, I'm looking for two things:
1) A team who will take Georgiev. I don't want anything back, and I'm willing to give something to get rid of him.
2) A new decent goalie for at least the rest of season.

I'm usually all about long thinking, but if you don't get a new goalie, then this season is lost - you can't allow that to happen.

My perfect thing would be to switch Rantanen and Shesterkin. I doubt that possible, but man, that would be amazing.

He probably only wants 13m to stay in boring ass New York City.

9-10m AAV for the attraction of the Colorado River.

The drive from Denver to the Colorado River is about the same distance as the drive from New York City to Philadelphia.

G is good till the games get tough. He has his weaknesses.
I know you're probably mentioning the playoffs, but I feel like G has rounded out his defensive game this year and really shown solid all around 2nd pairing play. It should translate well outside of him not being a physical defender. Kinda like Spurgeon.

Smaller defenders take longer to find their game when they aren't offensive dynamo, they need their 400 games. Now the question is if G can bring back some of his offensive strengths to chip in 30-40 pts a year. So far it looks like he might be.

Blackwood is UFA at the end of this season and makes 2.3M, the Sharks know he'll be in high demand at the deadline and will return a 1st+

They are in no rush to trade him unless you knock their socks off. Especially if they have to take Georgiev back.

As for Gibson, cheapskate owner more than likely don't want any retention whatsoever and the Avs absolutely can't take his full 6.4M cap hit for 2.5 years. They'd have to pay a 3rd team to take Georgiev and retain over 15M in real money. That'd be expensive as f*** for a solution that may not even work.

It's not easy.

A first? No.

Just look at what goalies fetch. Askarov returned a first because he's on an ELC etc. But Fleury was traded from the Blackhawks to the Wild at the deadline few seasons ago for a conditional second. Look at what Markström and Ullmark brought during the summer.

I don't think you understand how goaltender valuations work if you're offering a 1st + Ritchie

I hope you don't count on him to be our starter.

I'm not offering that, I'm saying you have to give them a reason to make the trade.

Kuemper returned a 1st, a 3rd and an NHL ready prospect.

It's going to be difficult but certainly not impossible.

My personal belief is that the team has been hoping and praying that he can get back to even just respectability so that they can include him in a deal going the other way without getting gouged as if he's a complete cap-dump.

When you think about it - the only truly attractive aspect of Georgiev is that he's in the final year of his deal BUT that's only useful if you can at least play him and he's at least close to .900 sv percentage even as a backup. So maybe there are going to be some teams out there who signed a goaltender to a multi-year contract who would like to get out from under that contract and a guy like George could be a decent option, if the Avs want to take on that kind of risk.

CMac is going to have to play him up and suggest that he's not as bad as his numbers indicate and that the team really has quit on him - and last night's game is a PERFECT TANGIBLE EXAMPLE he can use to back up his case.

Otherwise, I don't know if there are any miracle solutions. Putting him on waivers and down to the AHL only saves us $1M from his cap hit.

Oh wait - maybe he can just miss a meeting and then we can pay him his money and make the cap hit disappear - it worked for vgk, right ?

The goalie market will depend on a couple of factors.
While there are teams looking for goalies, which teams are looking at Blackwood to be their starter? I don’t think there’s many. If you’re looking to get him as a backup, I HIGHLY doubt teams will be parting with a 1st, makes no sense.

So who’s looking for a starter? And of those teams, which ones is Blackwood actually an improvement on their current starter?

I can’t believe we have to still talk about his size, and Spurgeon is definitely the apt comp here. He’s a solid little dude, gives more than he gets during the regular season. He’s become expert at defending for someone without the length, his stick work is fantastic and he usually goes to the right spot to cut down angles. He’s deserving on the 2nd pair and his offense skill is probably still better than 2/3 the league.

Playoffs are tougher, sure. But they are for everyone, you don’t jettison smaller guys for that reason alone. He’s not a wimp he just small boi.

I am sure CMac is trying to get a replacement for Georgiev. Let's not forget it takes two teams to make a trade.....and there is a thing called salary cap.
