I would be shocked if the Sharks parted ways with Blackwood right now. They've been doing reasonably well of late and likely want to keep riding this high as long as they can. I imagine they'll wait until they're as close to the deadline as possible.
Exactly.

Kuemper also had a much better track record and was being acquired for a full season at 50% retention.
He was also making way more money and the Yotes didn't have to take the kind of cap dump that you probably don't want in your locker room full of kids.

Again, Sharks have no reason to swap Blackwood for Georgiev. In fact, they have a lot of reasons to NOT do that.

Exactly. Unless you give them a good reason to trade him now and take Georgiev instead.
What would they have to package alongside Georgiev to get someone to take him? He's got to have negative trade value at this point.

Is there a stat available somewhere, where they list out how many goals were scored on the first shot of a game, or the first half dozen shots of a game? Or in the first several minutes of a game?

I've been watching this sport for several decades, and I can't remember ever seeing a team give up goals on the first shot of the game, 2 out of the first 4 shots of a game, goals so very early in the game, etc. as often as the Avs have this season. I'm sure it's happened, but not to my memory.

If the Sharks are intent on tanking again this season, which given their 29th ranked points percentage indicates they very much are, then taking on the much worse goaltender while getting assets back would be a wise move.

The Sharks have a very good reason to move on from Blackwood.

Of course he has negative value. It would cost more if Georgiev goes the other way than if we keep him and his cap hit.

Not a HUGE negative value since he's a pending UFA but negative none the less. Also, like I said, if you manage a team like the Sharks do you want to add that guy to your locker room?

Protecting the kids they have is far more important than tanking on purpose with a goalie that has a terrible attitude. They'll be bad anyway.

Protecting the kids from what? A bad teammate? They'll have bad teammates throughout their NHL careers.

Hell, the Sharks went and claimed a guy who very publicly did not want to play for them in Barclay Goodrow. Seems to be doing just fine.

Wasn't tanking the impetus for them going with Vanicek instead of Fatboy for Kaakonen at the TDL?

I agree that there are not likely to be a lot of teams that actually want to add Georgiev to their team.

It would have to be a team that :

A) already has a starter AND wants to move-out an expensive back-up goalie with TERM to get out from that contract. That way - they can play George sparingly until his contract is up at the end of the year.

AND

B) a team that is unlikely to have any playoff aspirations

Anaheim seems to fit the bill but as many have mentioned, they probably don't want to retain on Gibson.

Plus, they've been very selective with his starts and if I'm the Avs, I'd like to see Gibby against some stiffer competition before I pull the trigger :

G only really struggled in the postseason in that Vegas series, and yet everyone just points at that. He was absolutely killing it in 2022 before he got injured with that cheap shot from Barbashev (yes it was a dirty hit, I don't care what AJ or anyone else says).
Funny enough is that the hate on G are mostly from eastern teams like Habs and Sens. Fan of teams that get to see him play once or twice per year. Literally saw a Sens fan saying that he wouldn't take Girard for free in the waivers

Quick question for you all - does anyone use an app or something preferably texted-based that give you up to the minute updates on NHL trades ??

When the Avs trade for their next starter, I want to get the jump on everyone in my hockey pool and pick him up. lol

Between Blackwood and AG, theres only a 400k salary difference. That difference gets smaller and smaller as we progress into the season. (It’s currently somewhere in the 280K range) The Avs could even retain a bit to eliminate that gap altogether or even save the Sharks some money if necessary.
The Sharks don’t even need to play Georgiev. They could just waive him and have Vanecek and Askarov as their duo. Or they could just keep Askarov in the AHL and platoon Georgiev and Blackwood.

We need to stop acting like what happened with Georgiev and the Rangers 3 years ago
is the same thing wherever he goes. He was pissed off because he felt like he wasn’t given a chance. Are we suggesting he’d go to San Jose and cause up a storm in half a season there?

Don't worry about the updates... just jump the market and pickup Michael Hutchinson. Stats looking pretty pretty good at the moment! (in SM-Liiga)
