Or he’s just on vaca. I was guilty of logging onto this horrible place once or twice while lounging on a beach in Waikiki
Did you make your way over to Maui? Wondering how West Maui is faring a year after the Lahaina fire.

B) a team that is unlikely to have any playoff aspirations

Anaheim seems to fit the bill but as many have mentioned, they probably don't want to retain on Gibson.

Plus, they've been very selective with his starts and if I'm the Avs, I'd like to see Gibby against some stiffer competition before I pull the trigger :

They haven't really been selective with his starts, he was on IR to start the year due to an appendectomy, then started 6 of the Ducks next 9 games upon returning. Dostal played the most recent game, so they are 60/40 in favor of Gibson since he returned, despite Dostal having the best numbers in the league during his absence.

Ducks fans have debated on what that usage could mean. Do they still see Gibson as the starter? Do they think Dostal was starting to burn out a bit from taking on so much work in the first few weeks, so Gibson's return timed out nicely with giving Dostal a bit of a break? Or do the teams we assume they are discussing Gibson with, insist on seeing him take the starters share of starts for awhile? I'd lean towards the latter two options both perhaps having truth.

Who was the backup while Gibson was injured?

James Reimer.

Good test for him tonight starting against Vegas. It’s 0-0 after 7 minutes played. I’m watching the game.

I enjoy talking Avs hockey with some here, but I also didn't come here for a few months up until recently, and I think it actually had a benefit to my day to day mood.

Definitely don't log in when on a beach in Hawaii.

If Anaheim is willing to take a cond 1st for a retained Gibson just do it.

I get wanting to be patient with George, but he isn't going to find his game here.

That ship has sailed as far as Georgiev finding his game and being the goalie that takes the Avs far in the playoffs. In 3 years that he’s been our goalie, the best result we’ve had with him was going to 2nd round. This year we’re actually in danger of missing the playoffs if he continues to be the starter.

CMac has to trade for a goalie in the offseason anyway. I don’t know if there are any legit starting goalies available in the free agent market. I don’t think there is one but I haven’t really checked. If a trade has to be made, why not just trade right now instead of waiting for the offseason?

Zero sure options. Kevin Lankinen is doing fine rn and he is will be UFA.

Apparently when Gibson requested a trade last season, Anaheim wasn’t too interested in retaining. Maybe that’s not true, or maybe the Ducks have softened a bit. But that would be a big hurdle if true. You might have to find a team, or teams, willing to retain for 2 - 2.5 seasons.

Montreal is a candidate. But retention slots might be an issue.

Yea if they don't want to retain it makes the trade close to impossible.

Imagine the cost in assets that the Avs would have to pay to a 3rd team to retain ~8M in real money and take one of their retention spot for 3 deadlines. I'm not sure that one team in the whole league is even willing to do that.

What about this:

Anaheim: Colorado 2025 2nd and 4th for retaining .7 per year.

Montreal: Colorado 2026 1st and other 2025 4th for 5.9 of retention total on Gibson and taking .75 of Georgiev’s last year.

Colorado: Gibson

No team can retain more than 50%.

If I read this correctly, Anaheim is retaining 700k and Montreal is retaining 5.2? That’s not allowed, but secondly, the Avs don’t need anywhere close to that amount of retention.

Never mind. I overlooked something. But the idea was to get Montreal below 6.0 total.

Montreal don't have enough retention slots for their own players that they'd want to trade. 0 chance they do that.
