Vaakanainen+Gibson @ 50%. ?
Drew O'Connor + Nedeljkovic ?
Neddy is NOT the answer. I still think Anaheim is holding out for the perfect trade, meaning no retention and sizeable assets in return, so I'm guessing they wait until the last possible moment, and I'm guessing Carolina gets him somehow.

I don't know who the Avs get at this point. Might have to be so desperate as to get a guy like Merzlikins, and that of course would be the gamble to end all gambles.

Thoughts on Ingram? Kochetkov?

Both I think are currently hurt, and both have been wildly inconsistent, which the Avs already have so I don't think they should go out and get more of the same.

IMO the primary targets should be (not necessarily in order): Gibson, Merzlikins, Mrazek.

Anaheim is going to end up trading Gibson for a C prospect and a 3rd at this rate.

I’m still on for adding Cam Fowler to the trade and it let’s Veerbeek save some face getting a better return in total for Gibby.

Now I’d do Geo and the 2nd this year if Anaheim retains 1/3 on Gibson.

Personally I'd rather they not do that, despite the scoring numbers I've never been a fan of Fowler's. Gives up way more than he produces. A fancier Justin Faulk.

If the Ducks are remotely willing to retain on Gibson then by all means, DO IT NOW, but I have the feeling their infamously cheapskate owner doesn't want to do that. I also think they're going to wait as long as possible to see who gives up the best offer, Carolina is getting pretty desperate themselves.

Is there a reason why Avs just placed Colton on LTIR when they said he’s coming on the road trip and can possibly play towards the end? I get the whole money saving thing just seems like odd timing.

They called up 4 guys for the road trip. With LTIR, they have space for all 4.

Gibson and Fowler make $13m combined.

How are we making that happen?

Also, Fowler is completely cooked.

Agreed on the salary part, no idea how you guys could take on both.

I don't think Fowler is cooked though. He's been used as a #1 D on a dogshit team (leading the Ducks at over 24 mins per game each of the last three seasons) which he's not elite enough to shoulder with any level of success (although did put up a career high in points two years ago). I don't think his talent has deteriorated to the point where he couldn't be a decent top 4 D, depending on how he rebounds from this current injury of course.

Ducks are in a bit of an awkward spot when he returns here. Fowler is officially more proven and still "better" than some of the young D, and also a few games from playing 1000 with the franchise. But the team is playing fairly well, and none of the current group really deserve to come out of the lineup. Lacombe - Zellweger, Mintyukov - Gudas, Dumoulin - Helleson seem to have struck a nice balance.

I just dont see a need for Fowler. I think he's a fine Dman still, but the Avs already have Toews/G on the Left side and while the 3LD spot is certainly weak, we cant be spending $6M on that roster spot either. We also already have 4 good puck movers on our Defense, need to be adding more physical shutdown types if we add to the Defense at all(We should be).
