So according to the Canucks' Rick Dhaliwal, a couple of summers ago when J.T. Miller was being shopped the Canucks asked the Avs for a package involving both Bowen Byram and Alex Newhook and the Avs said no.

Honestly... I wish they made that trade. I love Mittelstadt, but J.T. Miller is on a different level and I can only imagine how good the Avs could have looked especially last season with him in tow.

That said, I think he's a vastly overrated defensive player and would NEED one of Lehkonen/Nichushkin on his line to make it work.

Ah well, hypotheticals.
Ya that would have been amazing. Although his salary is significantly more than Mittelstadt so it would have required some tweaking. Probably Avs don't make the Ross Colton trade.

Pod sucks and we wouldn’t have been able to afford Miller on his current contract we might have another cup tho

Mitts was the perfect 2C trade until we re-upped him for only 3 years.

I don't think Miller + Mack in our fragmented, captainless locker room would go well.

I've ragged on J.T. Miller a lot but I think he would love MacKinnon's fire. They would probably clash at times but I think they would both have the exact same fire burning to win.

Now with that said, Miller wouldn't be able to demand pucks and control of a PP here like he does in Vancouver.

That's actually a very good point. JT Miller is known hothead, I can't see him and MacK coexisting lol.
I'd think they'd work just fine. Everything I've heard about Miller sounds somewhat similar to how Mack is. I guess being to similar could be problematic, but seemingly they are both just highly competitive guys who want to win and hate guys that aren't driven like them.

I don't think "only" 3 years is that significant. He'll be here when it matters the most. Plus, if he likes it here, then he'll also be around after that.

I think Mitts will continue to play well and be a great player here. That’s not at all what I’m saying in this though… those players were all seen as superior players compared to Mitts. Mitts flourishing now doesn’t change the past views.

I understand what you're getting at, but there is also a good chance he produces just as well as those players would have here given the chance.

The sad thing really is the two or three years this team didn't fully go all in, and ever going into a season with Jost or Newhook as hope for 2C lol.

Speaking of Mitts I finally found the contract model from Evolving Hockey, someone asked about it the other day. This was posted on the EH site a week before the signing.

As you can see, the price for 3 years was projected at 5.8M (spot on), 4 years was also 5.8M AAV and 5 years was 6M AAV. Best bang for the buck was 7 years at 6.7M, that'd have covered his entire prime for dirt cheap with the cap going up. Best option considering our cap situation would have been 1 or 5 years.

Take a few seconds to read the paragraph on top please.

That contract bought 2 RFA years and 1 UFA year.
