Speaking of Jack Quinn (hilarious name given the Hughes) - what happened to this dude? Offensively slanted but no offence? He did quite well in the AHL, maybe Buffalo is just doomed.

Who on this list is better than Mitts??

Quinn has had injuries. I'm sure he pan out fine eventually though. Too good of shot to not find a role in the NHL.

Norris, Zegras, PLD, Horvat, Miller and Nelson. PLD is a pure effort issue, but he's drastically more talented player. Norris just needs to stay healthy. Horvat, Miller and Nelson are very clearly above. Zegras needs a change of scenery, but if it happens, he's going to likely turn into an all star level player.

I'm probably the biggest Mitts tire pumper as there has ever been. He was very clearly not the sexy piece in that trade and he was not very highly regarded in comparison.

Yeah I don't know what's wrong with Quinn, he's always been touted as a really good two-way forward and had a good rookie season, then got hurt last year and his underlying numbers this season have been total shit.

As for those other players, a few of them are more productive than Mittelstadt, maybe not better all-around but more able to punch it in the net with consistency.

This is easy to state now with seeing Mitts here, but the majority of this forum was against it. The viewpoint on him as as player has shifted dramatically since the trade.

Avs could have grabbed Norris, McTavish, Zegras, Cozens, and PLD as younger players. They could have also used him to grab older, but better players like Horvat, Miller, or Nelson.
All of those outside of maybe McTavish woulda been frigging awful, especially considering what PLD went for. Only ones I can think of that woulda been better than Mitts (and unlikely to actually be available) would be Byfield and Fantilli.

You're saying that now, after having Mitts here and seeing the results with hindsight. On the lead up to the trade, many hated the idea of swapping Byram and Mitts.

If Miller was here for the 23 and 24 playoffs, I think we'd have another Cup.

No, I was saying for awhile leading up to the trade that we should go get Mitts and was shocked when it happened. He's definitely exceeded my expectations but he was one of, if not the top guy that I wanted.

Possible, I still think we were still too thin in the depth department these past 2 years.

I'm not saying you... I'm saying as a whole it was deeply unpopular. I've been his biggest tire pumper for years and years, no one has to convince me on how good Mitts is. A year or 17 months prior, Byram had a lot more value than he did at the Mitts trade and more highly regarded players could have been had.

I'd really like to see the Avs prioritize IQ on any acquisition. This team has too many donkeys already.

Wood-Colton-Frederic coming up with a game plan would be interesting to say the least.

Yeah I mean it's possible. I remember there being Horvat/Byram rumours, wouldn't have liked that much.

He's very, very, very far from that level right now. It would have to be a drastic change.

I can't say for sure what's happened, he dealt with a ton of injuries last season and has wilted badly under Cro for whatever reason (really, it ain't like there are any players who are excelling outside of Dostal under Cro) so yeah, a change of scenery would do him some good IMO. Back-to-back 60-point seasons on a really bad team don't just happen out of the blue. He's got legit star center talent and hockey sense. So long as the problem is not a lingering injury, he'd likely flourish elsewhere.

I wanted Mitts for Byram basically as soon as we lost Kadri. The only other player I really pined for using Byram was Hayton. The rest was without using Byram in the trade.

I don't know what the deal is but he shouldn't be behind all those guys on a team that can't score.

Last year was no better either.

I understand that but again, he played 31 games last year. Dude was hurt the whole damned season almost. Before that, I'll reiterate, back-to-back 60+ point seasons on a team that was demonstrably worse than the one they currently have. At least talent-wise it is. You don't get to slam his current struggles and dismiss his first two seasons out of hand.

As for the rest of those guys, I don't know, I've said before I'm kinda baffled as to how a team with that much talent--raw as it is--is the single worst offense in the NHL. Like, that's absurd.

I'm still not convinced Verbeek is a good GM. He hasn't impressed me so far, his veteran acquisitions haven't moved the needle at all, and his first coaching hire (Cronin, much as I actually like the guy) appears to be a huge bust. He needs to take some f***ing initiative, and not just sit back while the team circles the drain again. I get that he might be working for the worst owner in the league, but dude needs to shit or get off the pot with some of these players (Fowler, Zegras, and of course, Gibson) and start actually shaping that roster into something good.

I mean Mack put up 38, 52, and 53 points in b2b2b seasons and is now one of the best players in the league. If any fanbase should get development isn't linear it should be us.
Mack's shit #2 and #3 seasons were almost as good as Zegras' best seasons.
