Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

I could see Necas performing as a center in a similar way to how Nate USED to play the center role when he had Gabe on his wing.

Once the defensive zone cycle started Mack would cover the point man and Gabe would be down low. He'd probably need a winger on his line with those types of capabilities (Nuke, Lehky or Gabe himself).

It's probably something that needs to be tried from the start of training camp tho. To push him into that role now is a bit risky.

I think what people are missing with wanting Necas to play C vs wing is that it's just a totally different position that comes with more responsibility. Not being good at C isn't really about whether he's good at face offs or defensively, thought the defensive responsibility is far greater there. It's just a totally different experience at C where you impact far more ice and are typically attacking and defending in a very different manner. I'm not opposed to trying him there, but the chances are that the added responsibility isn't conducive to his current skillset in the NHL.

But with what we know about his skillset at the NHL level is that he would add a desperately needed skillset to the 2nd line and would add more danger and play driving down the lineup which is very needed at the moment.

Curious to know what we do with the D.

We all agree we need at least one defenseman. Utopia is Jones so Manson slides down, but more realistic path is a partner for Malinski on the third pair.

We have 8 D right now and that can’t/won’t continue.

Kylington
de Haan
Middleton

At least 1, more likely 2, need to go if we want to bring in another D.

Bednar really likes Middleton so he probably stays as the 7D if we acquire somebody, meaning we need to get rid of Kylington($1.05m) and de Haan($0.8m).

It could be as easy as putting them on waivers and sending them down, but I doubt management wants to pay them their NHL salary in the minors.

Kylington might have a market based on reputation, but I can’t see any takers on de Haan unless we force him into a trade as a contract throw-in.

This is what I believe :

Kylington will be traded for EJ at the TDL - Briere does EJ a solid and moves him back to the Avs. The money is practically the same.

de Haan is the 'warm body' that is going to go the other way - when we trade for an experienced bottom pairing guy like Dumoulin, Grzelcyk, etc...

Middleton could be traded but I think they'll keep him around as the 7th d-man.

Malinski will be one of the pieces that's traded IF the Avs are going to pull off a deal for a Top-4 guy like Seth Jones, Rasmus Andersson, etc...

The real target from Seattle...

One thing not to forget about Necas or Mikko at 2C is the former actually wants to play at that position. You put him there in a position to succeed with good 2-way Ws and tell him: "Here you go....prove to me I should keep you there." If it doesn't work you put him back at W.

Exactly, there is reason to believe Rod just wouldn't play him there because other guys were more willing to stay within his structure as well.

I do think it probably made less sense to try it while Nuke was out though.

I'm older. My real battle in the 60s/70s was Ginger vs MaryAnn in Gilligan's Island. (MaryAnn of course) That said we had Barbara Eden as Jeannie, Julie Newmar as Catwoman and Yvonne Craig as Batgirl.

Of course, we had all the original Bond Girls as well. And you might want to take a gander at Raquel Welch in the film One Million Years, B.C.

lol well the good thing is that as the coach, you don't really need to ask the players where to play them. Necas should be tried on the 2nd line at some point, just to see what options we have on the roster because we know Mack can work with any of our other top 3 wingers.

Anyways, a scenario no one has brought up yet that could be a possibility is Marner signing with the Avs. We talk about Sid, Marchand and even maybe Rants returning but Marner could be a possibility. I mean, I don' t think we have the cap either way but there's probably a way for it to happen if both sides are motivated.

Marner is Mack's buddy, he's already got his bag and he hasn't won a championship. Maybe he takes less to chase glory with his friend.
Try Necas at C for some reps and options. If Mack gets hurt then we are screwed and have basically no C's. For me Deury is a 4th line C also

I just seen EJ was in Denver at a Nuggets game on IG.

It’s on the wing in Seattle where he finally found his footing as an NHLer. I don’t think he’d make for a good center. You want that guy on the wing taking shots.
Actually he was pretty good in Pitt and Toronto but I can't remember if he played more wing or C in Toronto
