Zegras may never put it together, but I don’t know how anybody can watch him and not see the absurd skill. If I was a GM on any non contending team, he’d be my very first target.

Quinn has had injuries. I'm sure he pan out fine eventually though. Too good of shot to not find a role in the NHL.

Norris, Zegras, PLD, Horvat, Miller and Nelson. PLD is a pure effort issue, but he's drastically more talented player. Norris just needs to stay healthy. Horvat, Miller and Nelson are very clearly above. Zegras needs a change of scenery, but if it happens, he's going to likely turn into an all star level player.

I'm probably the biggest Mitts tire pumper as there has ever been. He was very clearly not the sexy piece in that trade and he was not very highly regarded in comparison.
PLD was a massive risk. Norris always injured. You really think Nelson and Horvat are better than Mitts? Only one that’s clear is Miller to me and we couldn’t afford that salary

I mean Mack put up 38, 52, and 53 points in b2b2b seasons and is now one of the best players in the league. If any fanbase should get development isn't linear it should be us.
The league was way different from 2014 to 2016 than it is now. Benn led the league with 87 points in one of those seasons. McDavid has nearly doubled that in recent years. What Zegras is putting up 3rd liner numbers currently. Though I do think he is better than this he’s also not MacK

Nelson has scored 34+g the last 3 seasons. Horvat has been 30+. Both play decently heavy defensive roles until Horvat went to the island. Yeah they are better or at minimum were better the last couple years. Norris is an injury risk, but higher ceiling and been better than Mitts. PLD is certainly a risk, but he’s also played at a higher level.

I love Mitts. Have the clear posting history to show that. Those guys (sans Norris) are all more proven than Mitts and many are significantly better. That doesn’t mean Mitts is bad, because he’s great. Just he’s never played a season as the levels Horvat and Nelson have. Nor PLD when he gives a F.

I mean I’m not saying he’s gonna be a Mackinnon level player?

Yes but if he breaks out, and is good as Mack is slowing down we may have a couple of years where they are 1A 1B that we can contend with two completely different looks at Center.

I think having Mitts gives us a shot at contending in some later years if he can reach the PPG level, and still be good against the puck.

There is a much higher chance he'll repeat if he has a 80 or 90 point year than Kadri ever doing that again.

Fair. I think we gotta see what Mitts can do outside of Buffalo too tho. His playoffs were stellar and its continued into this season.

I think Mitts will continue to play well and be a great player here. That’s not at all what I’m saying in this though… those players were all seen as superior players compared to Mitts. Mitts flourishing now doesn’t change the past views.

So Kovalenko's ELC expires at the end of this season. That kinda sucks.

So according to the Canucks' Rick Dhaliwal, a couple of summers ago when J.T. Miller was being shopped the Canucks asked the Avs for a package involving both Bowen Byram and Alex Newhook and the Avs said no.

Honestly... I wish they made that trade. I love Mittelstadt, but J.T. Miller is on a different level and I can only imagine how good the Avs could have looked especially last season with him in tow.

That said, I think he's a vastly overrated defensive player and would NEED one of Lehkonen/Nichushkin on his line to make it work.

Ah well, hypotheticals.

it was Miller + for Byram and Newhook. Avs would have gotten an additional (good) piece. There was also discussion around Miller for Byram + with the plus being far less significant than Newhook.
