Luke won't improve his defensive game much more in college. Michigan wants what's good for them, which is to let Luke run and gun and play his full offensive game. He needs to turn pro and have special attention put on his D-game. Whether that's in the AHL or NHL remains to be seen, but I'm sure he'll get his look with the big club this year.

Michigan has tried to make him more of an all around defender this year(similar to Power last year) whereas Casey has gone into Luke’s role from last year.

His defensive game is a work in progress, he’ll probably be a very similar player to Hamilton only he can skate much better

Liked that 1on1 play by Hughes. He was patient and just let the play die in the corner.

I HIGHLY doubt much thorough effort is made to polish Luke's D game. The NCAA isn't a developmental league, it's a business. The reality is that the best thing for the Wolverines is to let Luke go full offense, since that's his elite strength.

I also see that comparison a lot (with Hamilton), but I see iit mostly as an "offensive D-man" comparison. Luke is way more crafty than Dougie, is 10x the skater he is, and is way better in transition.

Well probably, but most players don't just jump from an amateur league straight to being an NHL regular.

Some folks here have been talking like we can trade Sevs at the deadline with no worries because Luke is gonna jump right in and take his place for the playoffs.

#37 Kemmell played at total of 14:04.
1st: 2:43 2nd: 4:20 3rd: 6:21 OT:0:40

Turning to him in “break glass in case of need of goals” on makeshift lines or hope for something on PP (is he on the PP?) doesn’t seem like the best way to get something out of him.

I didn’t see the game but…

It says he was on the ice for the 1st Swiss goal against with 3 Forwards: #15 Hameenaho (TOI 6:47) and #18 Miettinen (TOI 14:15), #29 Huuhtanen (TOI 15:04)
and one Defensemen: #21 Heimosalmi (20:31)

I feel like I’m reading it wrong in some dumb way lol

How did that happen?

Savage makes it 4-2, feels like the floodgates are about to open, US all over them

Nice play by Luke on the Latvian zone entry to negate entry, goal scored shortly after.

I think some of you guys are overselling a poor game, but then a few posters have seemed dead set to rain on people's parades regarding certain prospects
I don't even think he's had a poor game, just that one really bad play and a few other mistakes. The US overall has looked sloppy though, hardly just him.

Other than the 1st Latvian goal, I haven't noticed many glaring mistakes. He's made a few encouraging plays on D and his speed/vision both look good. It's been far from his most dynamic game though, that's for sure. The US in general look sloppy, it can happen in first games.
