Speaking of Svozil, wow, he has 5 goals and 32 assists (37 points) in 28 games with Regina in the WHL. Playing with Bedard must help, but still, he looks great.

Kind of guy we could've drafted instead of Stillman or Salminen in 2021, although I'm not hopeless on both of them at all.

Man, honestly, Svozil might creep in in my top-10 D prospect list quickly. Kid looks really good out there. Will keep a close eye on him during the tournament. Also super cool that my 4 guys in my top-5 are playing in the tournament.

1. L. Hughes (USA)
2. S. Edvinsson (was eligible, a shame he wasn't loaned by the Wings)
3. S. Nemec (SVK)
4. D. Jiricek (CZE)
5. B. Clarke (CAN)

Nice play my Jiricek but not sure what Canada’s goalie is doing there
Curious to read your thoughts on Jiricek. He's in my top 5 D-man prospects as I like his mix of tools (shot, physicality, mainly) and potential, but I'm not a huge fan of his skating. He looks kind of slow and choppy to me.

I wasn’t a fan going into the draft. Don’t love his skating either. Haven’t watched him much since the draft. Think there’s some high end potential with the size and shot and it obviously seems like he’s had a good start to his AHL career. Still take Nemec over him every day. Isn’t as good of a skater, puck mover and isn’t as smart overall IMO.

Great to see this for the Czechs, but the mass hysteria that this will cause is what makes this even more fun. (Oh please, oh please, oh please, hold on on guys. Leave the moral victories to the Latvians.)

I agree, 2 completely different D-men, but I take IQ and skating before a good shot and physicality every time.

I honestly wouldn't count Canada out of it yet, wouldn't be surprised if they come back in this game.

If Canada keeps pressing like they did at the end of the 2nd, they might win this.

Oh, that’s very likely what will happen.

Canada has the most talent and the least time playing together as a team. They’re always off a bit early on, part of their rooting fanbase wildly overreacts even though this always happens. I don’t know how they aren’t used to it by now. They always slowly gain momentum and then they either win or almost win the whole thing.

I always enjoy any early “maybe Canada doesn’t even make it to the medal round, not with X” nonsense though. (The X this time would be goaltending I guess or maybe slowish defense.)

Bedard really struggling with the Czechs being all over him. Might take a few years to get up to speed in the NHL similar to Hughes.
