Jekyll & Hyde this team , I swear... Good to see them hit the long ball today, it's been sorely missing for a vast majority of the games.

But it probably means they wont hit any for a few games now lol.

Mariners just keep winning, maybe we have a better chance of knocking the Astros out of the last WC spot.

Remember during that first start back when everyone around here was saying this is the end of his career?

And it feels like it should have been. While there’s a pretty good history of soft-tossing accuracy-dependent lefties that have had long careers, how many had TJS, or another serious arm injury, at 35 years old? Hell when he got hurt and left that other game I thought he blew out his knee and his career was over.

One thing that I love about baseball is that it’s incredibly weird.

Nice to see a game where the bats have life. Hopefully Vlad issue isn’t serious

Heck I didn't even think he'd pitch for the Jays again after the TJ surgery last year. And yes, the first start I was saying "what did you guys expect" type of thing...

I'm glad he's been good so far, he effectively replaced Manoah for the stretch run, who was not consistent after returning from the FCL.

It’ll be interesting to see who doesn’t make the playoffs between the Astros, Jays and Mariners.
The Rays aren’t out of the woods yet.

Julio can’t stay this hot forever. Right? Right?

Those2 games we pissed away vs them (mariners) really hurt. Plus I didn't think mariners were a threat, they were sellers at the deadline

This Yankees free fall could be the biggest blessing for the Jays. In September the Yankees could just shut down Rizzo Judge, Torres, Cole and go with a kids line-up. Could be a massive break for them

Jays still have Washington, Colorado, Cleveland, a bunch of games against a weak Yankees club I think we still have Oakland as well. They actually have an easier schedule than most. A sweep or at at least 2 out of 3 from Boston against Houston would be huge considering we have the tie breaker against Houston

It would be really nice if we were like a game or 2 back of TB by the time we play them in late September

Baltimore series is huge. Jays have to turn the tide against them or risk being further out. Not ideal at all playing catchup if you’re 2 or more games back. Could be a game out already if Seattle beats the White Sox this afternoon. I don’t care how good they are, it’s inexplicable to be 2-8 against them when you’re supposed to be a good team yourself.

They should have a better record against them, it’s just impossible to be consistently good against other good teams when your supposedly superstar players aren’t playing even close to their potential. The inconsistency of the hitting throughout the year has cost them big time in the standings. Vladdy has been invisible for the good part of 3 months now if not more. Kirk has struggled mightily lately, Varsho has just started to come around after an abysmal start. Chapman has been invisible outside of April. That’s almost half your lineup not doing a Damn thing at the plate

Imagine where this team would be if not for Bichette and a solid year from Belt… we’d be right around where the Yankees are. With our pitching there is zero excuse why we have such a bad record within our own division. Our BP is elite, we just need Vladdy, Kirk, Chapman to wake up from their slumber

I'm guessing you'll find that statement applies to literally every team in baseball.
Well, this team especially because they’ve pitched so well all year, but can’t hit worth a damn when it matters.

Orioles fans better enjoy this small window of success because it seems like Angelos is already crying poor before his young squad even finish their 1st true season together. In an interview he says he doesn’t see much of a chance of every young player being career Orioles because they’re a small market club. LOL!!!!!

The Orioles have a 70 million dollar payroll which ranks 28th in the league, this cheap SOB earned the fifth highest profit margin last year due to revenue sharing. What a cheap loser. This team could be amazing for the next decade+ but Angelos is already stopping that noise. What a joke of an owner. This guy pocketed 60+ million in revenue sharing. Even putting half of that back into the roster would prolong the contention window. But nah.. he wants every cent in his pocket while he cries to the media

Lets all take a selective small sample size shall we.

Overall the guy is batting sub .220 in a larger more representative sample size.

He's a defensive or base running replacement on any other team.
His defence is really, really valuable and is enough for him to start on any team in baseball every day. He’s still going to end up a 3-4 WAR player by season’s end. The only reason we even care about his bat in the first place is because Guerrero, Springer, and Kirk are having pathetic seasons offensively relative to expectations.

There's plenty of guys in the minors who are defensive superstars. If you can't hit then you don't play everyday on a good mlb team.

The point of contention that led to my comment was that allegedly having him high in the lineup right now was dumb because it made things "mediocre".

But right now, the only thing that matters in this moment, he's on fire. So having one of your hottest bats higher in the linup to take advantage of it is a smart move that makes the team better when you consider that the alternatives are the still-struggling Kirk and Chapman.

He's also one of the best defenders in baseball, has 14 steals on like a 75% success rate, is on pace for 20 HR, and has the other two full years of his MLB career to demonstrate that he historically has not been the guy who struggled to the degree that he has in April and July this season so there is credible reason to expect that he can and should rebound from his funk and that his August performance is more in line with expectation than his year-to-date stuff (again, largely dragged down by a slow start and awful July)
