Both players taking the blame though.

One being careless with the puck over the glass/being caught unaware at 2nd. based.

If only Vlad/marner could elevate in the tough games.

Marner putting the puck over the glass is about him caring too much and putting too much pressure on himself. Vladdy doing that nonsense at 2nd is being careless. Completely opposite situations and not remotely comparable

With a couple of bats who are threats for hr, this team can rebound. But who?

It's sad that the only player that pitchers are legit scares of now is Bo, so who can we get to scare pitchers and maybe get vlad some better pitches to hit?

And should shatkins be the ones doing this?

A smart guy would realize da reason he got picked off was because he thinks he is quicker and faster than he really is .. he would have heard SS running to bag guaranteed unless his hearing is bad .. so he quite frankly thought with his short lead he could beat pick off attempt .. but he is still so immature he will likely make excuses for himself .. bottom line FAT guys have limited mobility and reduced speed .. he is such a young BABY likely brought up wealthy so he might never grow up .. i call it da Trudeau affect

Vladdy has things to work on, but perhaps this was just one of those down years and he learns from it, and next year he is a 40 HR, 110+ RBI guy.

The most frustrating thing for me though, and the pickoff at 2nd was the pinnacle of it, is that he comes across at times that his mind isn't there. He lacks that killer instinct where he can separate the lighter, fun moments of the game, from that serious, hand-nosed edge. Dare I say it, but he is starting to give off Yunel Escobar vibes. Obviously Vladdy is way more talented, but just like how Yunel acted, comes across as lazy, disinterested and immature more often that he should.

Who in Rogers is letting amateur level analytics to dictate the field level decisions constantly? I've never seen a quality starter like Berrios get pulled so early. The offense/baserunning has been a problem all season and it reared its ugly head at the worst time.

Now, if you want quality quants in your business, its not cheap $500k-$1M per. Your competing with big $ industries for that talent. Just too many subjective aspects to sports that aren't being factored into the equations.

I think what’s going to be the most infuriating for the next few weeks at least is going to be the comparisons to the Leafs and mentions of AA

How is he supposed to hear the guy jogging in behind him? Correa literally mentioned to Gray earlier in the game that they can't hear Rivera yelling to go back because of the stadium noise. Credit to Correa and credit to the fans as it looked like a great playoff atmosphere.

Crowd was loud. He couldn't even hear his 3B coach. There are no excuses in that situation.

Again, both being blamed for team failures.

Both have been identified by some as reasons things don't go as wanted.

Surprised people can't see Vlad being pointed out here, and marner being pointed out in hockey threads.

Perhaps it is just perception, people see what they want to see, and if one is your hero you just don't see it.

maybe don't celebrate losing into a wild card spot like you just won the championship.
Not a problem at all but i'm sure Atkins will play this card this winter to save his job. Teams celebrating making the playoffs happens all the time. Never been a problem and never will be. They removed the HR suit coat and the result was less HR. It's like thinking a team celebrating winning the semis in hockey and touching the trophy is part of the reason they lost in the scf. When a team loses more often than not it's because of a lack of skills. Team was slow on base and did not have that much power. That's why they lost.

Thing is, both Vlad and Bo seem to be not so smart on the baseball field. Bo makes some atrocious decisions at times on the base paths, at the plate, and fielding his position.

AA is not a terrible GM, he's a good one, but he's got many equal peers throughout baseball. Mock all you want, that Atlanta team is entirely built on elite talent AA inherited. It's a matter of record.

That's just not remotely true.

Yes Atlanta had a lot of talent, but he's the guy that acquired MVP candidate Matt Olson, All-Star catcher Sean Murphy, closer Iglesias, Ozuna, Arcia, Rosario, etc. And he gave up relatively little for all of those guys and signed all of their key guys to great contracts.

There better be changes. I'm afraid that we're going to hear that this was a down year, there was alot of bad luck, made it to the playoffs, blah blah blah. They better not bring back the same manager, same players (Chapman, Belt, etc) and Atkins. This team was not constructed very well and change is needed.

Even with AA, between 2009 (or 2010, I don’t remember when he took over) and up to July 2015 team was doing nothing. All of a sudden he turned into some great GM?

He wants to stay on the West coast. All eastern teams are far down the list for him
That’s what I mean. Realistically they’ll only be a handful of teams that can/would spend on him because of the cost. But of that handful we’re on the bottom of the list. That’s what I meant. He wants to win and we are only a couple strong bats away from being really good

I don’t see any of our free agent position guys coming back. The team needs pop in the lineup. Keirmaier will be resolved with a power outfield bat. Belt is likely to retire and we need more pop from a full time DH IMO. Whit can easily be replaced internally.

Do you remember how many straight years the Jays missed the playoffs before AA came along?

The reason why he was caught doesn't really matter in the end. Being caught flat footed at 2nd base in this situation is unacceptable. With 2 outs and 3 balls and 2 strikes you can start running as soon as the ball is hit on anything that is not a ground ball. If it's a ground ball single (not infield) you'll score anyway. Vlad is slow but he's not Kirk he'll score on a ground ball single even if he remains close to the base. If it's a line drive single then you can start running as soon as the ball is hit and you'll score anyway.
