As for the original question management really turned the team around quickly. They only missed the playoffs for three years and made it in 2020.
2020 shouldn't really count, as it was the 60 game "season" and the team wasnt really all that good, and would have not made it had it not been the extra WC teams added because of covid, and probably would have not made it in a 162 game season.

Anthopolous was GM here for 6 years (2009-2015).

He went for it multiple times to bring a winning team. 2012 didn't work out but it built the way for the 2015 team, despite KC having a horse shoe up there ass I think that year the Jays could have won the entire thing. 2016 was one of the most fun season to watch, I realistically thought we could win it all. AA brought really exciting baseball back to Toronto.

Those pieces he traded (besides Syndergaard) can you tell me which ones have gone on to be great players? Hoffman our best piece has gone on to produce a 5.5+ ERA, Castro has amounted to nothing becoming an average (maybe) reliever.

Atkins has been GM here for 8 years now (2016-2023).

We had some brutal years after we traded everyone (messed up not trading Donaldson when he was healthy as they knew we were going to rebuild). Lots of losses but that is expected during rebuild. 2020 came, we made the playoffs when I don't think many thought we would, he got shutdown by Tampa. Mis-managed calls in that series as well. Good learning experience for the team.

2021 had high expectations (Great FA signings), gut wrenching missing the playoffs after a dominating offense showing, and good pitching. This felt like a year we would do damage.

2022 came, again high expectations based on the previous year except we made some more good signings so playoffs were expected. Well we made the playoffs and were the home team and completely fell apart, especially game two's epic collapse and again, mis-managed games.

Now this year.. I've already said enough in this thread about how pathetic this team was this year offensively. If not for the pitching we probably finish last place in the East. Playoffs were a joke. Atkins has had 8 years to right the ship and has failed.

Atkins
I agree with most of what is written here. I do believe Atkins needs to go. He hasn't been horrendous but Ross hasn't built a team that has had playoff success. I feel he's too patient at times. Not getting rid of the hitting coaches around the ASB as an example. For the most part, his FA signings have been excellent.

AA went for it twice while he was a Jay. In 2013 it turned into a massive failure. He really liked toolsy players but the ones he liked were prone to mistakes. He definitely learned by not acquiring guys like Bonifacio. AA also didn't get anything of value from the Halladay trade. Matt Boyd was a solid pitcher who he traded for Price. AA also failed to develop prospects. In 2014, players criticized him for standing pat at the deadline. Bautista was the most vocal.

2015 and 2016 were awesome and AA definitely deserves credit for those teams but I find some ignore the negative stuff and only remember 2015 and 2016. I realize he was gone in 2016 but most of that team was the one he built.

The 2020 team was young who's to say they don't significantly improve in a longer season?

I get what you're saying but it counts as making the playoffs just like if they went deep into the playoffs and won the WS, it would count.

It's a shame we couldn't capitalize on the brilliant pitching this season. It's good that most of them will be back next year, but I doubt they'll all be healthy for the whole season and pitch this well. I guess that's when you hope the offense rebounds after some necessary changes this winter.

Is it hyperbole? How many years did it take for the Jays to get back into the playoffs since he's been gone? and have they even won a playoff game?

Three years of rebuilding? Like I said, it could be a lot worse and at least the team is at a certain point in their window where management can’t simply just wait around and see what happens. Changes have to be made this offseason and critical ones too with plenty of free agents likely heading out the door (Chappy, Belt, KK, Whit, Ryu, etc.).

RE: Vlad. He’s 25 next March

Based on what we’ve seen so far, what do the numbers project for his future?
I think we may have to settle that he will not be a great player, just a good player.

But for his position, you are expected to hit better.

Not sure what front office changes are coming but they cannot sell this ‘we are a young, fun team’ naw cut that nonsense. You want a young fun team, see Baltimore Orioles.

The pitching is not the weakness of this team, get another arm for the rotation as Ryu is probably not coming back. Better hope Manoah fat ass has better conditioning on the off season.

As for the hitting, fire the hitting coach and get a new one. Get some bats in FA or trade, this one tried and failed.

The book is out on John Schneider right now, see what happens with him.

I don't watch the Jays often and when i do they strike me as the Leafs version of baseball. Loads of talent and they seem to really enjoy each others company but something important is definitely missing.

Never seen Sportsnet analysts shit on the Jays this hard ever. Everyone from Jamie and Joe to Shi to Ben Nicholson to Jeff Blair to Buck and Dan. Just letting it all out now that the season is over.
I count Jeff Blair as maybe the best sportscaster in this city. I know some find him arrogant, but I like that he is not a homer and generally provides pretty balanced analysis.

Really? Because the only WS Champions I can think of from the last ~15 years that have experienced real year-to-year sustainability are the Dodgers, Yankees, Astros and Cardinals, and they account for 5 of the last 15 champions.

And the Dodgers and Yankees achieved sustainability by spending more than every other team year in and year out, not by being prudent and risk-averse, so I wouldn't really count them. The Dodgers aren't shy to go out and make a massive trade or free agent signing.

Most of the time a team has a relatively short window and they do what it takes to capitalize on it.

So when GMs speak like Atkins does, you have to roll your eyes. These guys have never won and don't know how to win. Yet they talk like they have it all figured out.

I hope that's not how Shapkins really thinks. Because that type of strategy would work in 2-3 divisions across the league (witness MInny) but it's not going to work in the AL East. AL East is too good - TB is a great team every year, and NYY/BOSOX tend to rebuild quickly. Baltimore is more ebb and flow but right now they're good and will be for a while.

In this division, when you have an opening you need to go for it, and AA recognized this.

This team just needed to win 3 out of their last 6 games at home to secure a playoff spot. Couldnt even do that. They celebrated because another team lost No one is surprised by the way this all unfolded. But it poured gas on all the incompetence we have seen all summer.

It was actually relieving to see everyone losing on this team. It actually calmed me down a lot to not hear everyone towing the line. You could see it coming this season. There have been a few scenarios this season where the true feelings came out.

If the last two seasons of regression are any indication we're looking at 20 home runs, 85 RBI, and an OPS of .750 next season.
Which are terrible numbers for a 1B with bad defence

Other than Vlad, who do you think can seriously rebound?

They lack real talent and that’s on the guy that build this team

Could not beat a rested and injured no good Tampa team when they needed it

Signs were there but was ignored
