Guerrero was getting hyped as the best player in baseball by Blue Jays fans when he had the 48 homerun season.

But that season is looking like a very big fluke as it stands right now when compared to the rest of his career.
Yea he had a lot of HRs at minor league ballparks that year. He hasn't really looked the same since he came back to the dome in July that season.

The Blue Jays will still make the playoffs.

Seattle and Texas play each other 7 more times this season.

So it isn't as though both of them can go on a 5-2 or 6-1 run during 7 of the games left on their schedule. One of those teams will fall behind when those 7 games are complete.

Toronto will finish ahead of whatever team loses that Seattle-Texas battle.
I guess you missed the Texas series

The Jays don’t look like they can win even against a struggling mediocre team

The problem is all of our remaining games after this are against the AL East and we have a 10-25 record in the division. Meanwhile, while Seattle and Houston do play each other a lot, they both have an easy series in their pocket (Oakland, Angels) which we do not. And they both hold the tiebreaker over us.

Not impossible but quite difficult, especially given how listless we've been lately.

Even Bunkis has given up on the team:

Vladdy Junior reminds me of what was said about Arch Manning (nephew of Peyton and Eli and the grandson of Archie) when he was being recruited by all the major colleges and the hype was off the scale.
College football analyst Brad Powers referred to Manning as a four-star recruit who has a "five-star last name".

Arch may have picked the right school, but I know he (they) are not Lane fans or he’d be at home in Oxford. Similar to Peyton and Billy Brewer.

It’s about time the support for Atkins started to drain away. The guy does not know how to take a team to the next level.

He’s Kevin Cheveldayoff.

Patient to a fault and taking half measures when he should be committing more assets.

He’s dismantled a promising group of players and turned it into a JP Ricciardi-esque collection of players who are stuck in the purgatory of being too good to tank but not good enough to win.

It’s never too late for the Jays to go on a Florida Panthers like hot streak at the absolute very end. The panthers made it in with like 0 points or 1 point up on 9th and then went on a run… same thing happens in baseball, but time is ticking.

Nothing has changed since Feb and they remain on pace to win 88+ games, but unfortunately probably not enough to make the playin this year.

Probably a good thing, save the expense of traveling.

You could run a pool on whether Vladdy will fly out, ground out, strike out looking or hit into a double- play lately.

He's just not hitting with any authority.

It's too late.

This was the team they needed to deal with, and they won't see them or the Mariners or the Astros again.

Kaput.

No I don't think that the case.

Think people tuning out with Vlad being face of the franchise
Why did the fans pick the biggest series of the year to stay home in droves? On Sunday, after KKs pep rally, they didn’t know they would be lackluster in this series.

Was definitely alot of all those, also criticism of vlad or Schneider was ridiculous, we're lucky to watch this team, or some stupid stat why so and so is actually good.

Nearly every game is a struggle and seems like the exact same issues. If the stats say this team is good then they're wrong, and reality is right.

Also what the hell is up with the hitting coaches?! Do they do anything?

It's funny looking back at the reactions to anyone who expressed even minor reservations about the team's inconsistent performance. My favorite quote:

"[T]he team is more likely to be in the playoffs than not right now."

Honestly at this point I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees or Red Sox do catch up, and there's no way that should even be possible, but with this Jays offense it's almost looking like a possibility.

Yankees do have the much easier schedule left compared to Red Sox, so maybe Yankees do catch up, if Jays continue to struggle like this.
We have a few games against the yanks. It’s sadly possible

Crickets from the Shatkins fanboys. 🤣
I really liked the off season and was excited about this team. The level of under performance from the offence is insanity. I do and don’t blame Atkins. I will say it and when we miss the post season he and Schneider are likely gone. But listening to the radio today them talking about Schneider not being here that long and having a 3 year deal he likely stays if the front office does. That’s a huge problem and a sign of what next season will look like

I'll assume that I'm considered a "fanboy" so I'll take the bait. What's there to argue about? They look lifeless in the series, much like the Rangers did against the Astros.

I can surely admit when they look like crap, but I guess giving someone their flowers when things go right is considered blind devotion.

There's just no point in tracking a GDT when the team is losing because I know what the replies are and I guess I'd rather be doing something else than commiserating with everyone here by shit talking the club.

I'm debating whether I'll tune in tonight.
Yeahhhhhh I will, but I'm so tired of them being down early, and 5 innings later they're still putting up zeros against some of the worst pitchers in the league :)

Coming into the last couple of years Vladdy had done nothing to indicate the hype wasn't real. He put up stupid numbers in the minors before coming up and settling into the bigs almost straight away. The fact that he's Vlad Sr's son created awesome story lines (especially in Canada given the Expo history), but it was not the only source of his prospect status.

Hate how he's played recently all you want, it's justified, but don't pretend he's only relevant because of his name.
