I haven't been paying attention all game: Has Joe been solo at the broadcast desk all game? Seems weird that Jamie's not there and not doing all the lead studio break stuff.

I know it happens to be a dog days of August game on a Monday against a nondescript NL team, but it’s good to see attendance of ~27,000, one of the lowest of the summer I’m sure

Really glad we DFAd DeJong

I think I trust Clement’s bat more right now than DeJong who hasn’t gotten on base in his last 4 games with 9 strikeouts. Even with the defensive prowess it just doesn’t solve what the team truly needs from a contributing every day player. That may change but I’m not too worried about missing out on DeJong.

Not great. If they’re out of the race he may decide to play sparingly when he returns.
Ha, what?

Really glad we DFAd DeJong
I thought the DeJong DFA was unnecessary since they could have kept him as a backup and optioned Espinal instead to keep the depth. But ultimately... whatever, I guess... I don't care too much either way.

What I don't get is that they already have Clement and Espinal who can play SS and half the team who can play 2B, so what the hell is the point of calling up a SS/2B who can't hit at all in the minors when you have 3 other guys having great seasons in Buffalo this year (Horwitz, Lukes, Lantigua)?

It's the last roster spot so it probably won't make a difference, but it's just dumb. McCoy is completely pointless the way the team is built right now.

Yeah, what an absolutely bizarre recall.

They seem weirdly stuck on a fence with Espinal where they clearly don't trust him but also refuse to option him for some reason.

Yeah, it's pretty weird.

Literally the only justification I can think of: whoever they call up isn't going to play anyway, so at least they can use McCoy as a pinch-runner if needed (45 SB vs. 5 CS the last two years). Cam Eden makes way more sense filling that role (he's 46-4 this year alone), but they're just gonna DFA McCoy in a couple days to make room for Green, and they would rather lose McCoy than Eden.

I would still rather bring up someone who can hit, but even if it's Horwitz... how many at bats would he get the next couple days anyway, and at whose expense? If that's what they do, then I guess I don't care that much about giving a veteran minor-leaguer a couple days of major league pay.

Texas is the team to watch now. If Jays can stay at least within 1 or 1.5 games of them when the 4 game series starts at the Dome, then Jays can get their playoff spot back at that time. Feels like that 4 game set will be the season right there. Gotta stay within striking distance, and if we can get some help out of town between now and then that would be a bonus. Texas seems like the team to fall out. Horrible news about Bichette, though.

The have an easy stretch so those games against TX “should“ be meaningful.
