Or we can just keep on repeating Michkov 100,000 more times in here cause we have the power to impact Hughes’ mind.

I didn’t need to mention that option cause clearly if he doesn’t get a king’s ransom, he has it. However, there wouldn’t be so many rumblings if he really wanted to avail himself of it at the exclusion of other options.

Apparently, if you say Michkov three times, he appears.

If this board crashes tonight, where do people go to talk about the Habs?

I have a back up plan if that happens

I know it’s not the same trade and I’m well aware of the age difference. I just don’t see how trading two high end draft pieces makes sense when you’re rebuilding, and I think we paid too much for Newhook and his potential. We’ve been very lucky so far with MSL being able to turn guys around, but it’s not going to happen every time. I hope Newhook works out, but I don’t think the cost is worth the risk, at this point in the rebuilding process.

In that rebuild you need balance between prospects and players who are further along in their development. Newhook is closer to Suzuki and Dach than Slaf, Heineman, Roy, Farrell ect.

With the amount of prospects and picks we have, we can surely afford to gamble on a player with good potential who hasn't reached it yet.

Plus, I don't think we are done acquiring picks for tonight ;)

That's a matter of opinion. There are also some concerns in his game and how his flaws will translate at the NHL level. He's not a slam dunk.

And let's not pretend hockey teams live in a vacuum. The non-hockey related reasons are complex and consist of a great deal of uncertainty.

My point is that if we don't take him, it's completely irrational for outsiders to get upset about him being passed over by those who have been putting diligent work into his evaluation and have close connections to his parent team.

Irrational, yes. Will it happen...almost certainly yes.

Correct. There would only be last ditch attempts but the foundational elements that take time to negotiate, would have already been discussed.
What we know about Hughes is that he sets his price and doesn't seem to budge much.

I think it's the same with #5 ... he has already informed each team of interest what he wants from them... Come time, if Michkov is indeed there.. like you say there will be last ditch efforts ... if no one ponies up... i think we take him.

....At least I hope lol
