This is supposed to be one of the deepest drafts of all time, declared so by folks much more knowledgeable than myself.

I’d rather have more picks closer to the top, than less in one of the deepest drafts of all time.

Giving them away for potential seems like questionable management to me and I’m a big fan of Hughes.

It's a top heavy draft....meaning Top 10-20 is very good but 20-40 is not any different than any year.
Having said that, the draft has not started yet, Hughes has too much player and might get some other picks......but we already get out of the draft with Newhook which is far more better than any players we could get around 31st, those players have usually a 5% chances to be good NHLer.......

Listening to 690 and the 2 Ronnies are doing a mock draft for tonight and Campbell as the Habs trading 5th to the Caps for 8th + McMichael + Caps 2023 2nd. Then Gallo as the Habs taking Leonard at 8th.
And these idiots are paid to be "experts"? Montreal dropping a potential franchise player to get Leonard, a 0-point complete bust, and a meaningless 2nd round pick?

Any possibility we move back from 5th to a team wanting someone other than Michkov?
Curious if we could possibly move back twice and end up getting someone at #9 or #10 that we like and extra picks for it. Realize it's highly unlikely but would be some good tv drama tonight.
No, that would be a disaster. We need stars and game breakers. Not more of what we already have.

Or he can just draft him and not look back…
Or we can just keep on repeating Michkov 100,000 more times in here cause we have the power to impact Hughes’ mind.

I didn’t need to mention that option cause clearly if he doesn’t get a king’s ransom, he has it. However, there wouldn’t be so many rumblings if he really wanted to avail himself of it at the exclusion of other options.

However, given the limited time teams have when their turn to draft comes up, it makes sense that contingency talks are taking place now. Hence, this is where Seravalli is getting his info.

And it does appear that the the first 4 picks will be the centres, as we have been speculating since the lottery. So, it’s almost certain that Michkov lands at 5OA.

On that basis, Hughes can milk out overpays until he gets an offer that is too good to turn down. He has nothing to lose.
Never mind. I READ YOUR POST TOO QUICKLY.

As he said contingency plans. These trades more or less would be already hashed out in the eventuality that Michkov is there.
Correct. There would only be last ditch attempts but the foundational elements that take time to negotiate, would have already been discussed.

Aren't they on the clock? He can milk it for what 5 minutes?
He will likely have a potential trade in place. Any other bidders will konw what they have to offer to get the pick. They have 5 minutes to decide whether to do it. Of course Hughes might set a deadline of 5 or 6 pm and say whoever makes the best acceptable offer by then gets Michkov if he is available t 5.
