Having Palat "forced down" to 3rd line means he can further terrorize weaker defense pairings and provide more clutch offense. Its actually fairly perfect. He will still see PP1 time or at worst PP2 time.
Just imagine Palat-Haula-Holtz or Palat-Mercer-Holtz line if Holtz finally can swim through the NHL game. Don`t see any problem with it.

I think teams would love to roll a lineup like that. But it's not easy to put together the talent to do so.

Just look at our team, huge difference between the top 6 and the bottom 6.

The Devils have put together a team like that. They do not think in terms of a top 6 and bottom 6. Yes, the third line doesn't get to play with Hughes or Hischier, it doesn't mean they don't expect that line to contribute

Anyway this isn't trade talk so I'm stopping here.

Neither Hughes or Bratt are bad defensively...
They arent good defensively either

Save the advanced stats, everyone knows Jacks forecheck and takeaways run his defensive metrics, no he isnt good in his own zone and neither is Bratt.

So yes a Holtz Bratt Hughes line would be caved hard in the regular season let alone playoffs where theyd never win a board battle

Well considering most people are talking about the quality of player when they say top line, 2nd line, bottom-6/top-6, etc.. - it has its distinctions

But you knew that

Sure is weird for a guy with 30 posts to somehow be well-versed in the metaspeak of hockey message boards and somehow have a strong opinion on this. I guess it must be someone who found out about HFboards in 2023. Hail, fellow traveler.

Holtz's deficiencies are being overblown. He's not a terrible skater, his hands and playmaking are underrated skills. You don't have the AHL season he did at 19 if you're not very very good. Does he have the IQ to make the most of his skillset at the highest level? I don't know. But let's not act like he still isn't a valuable prospect.

edit: on the other hand, I understand SJ being cool on him. He'd be a much bigger trade chip if he was over a PPG in Utica again this season.

Ya, basically no difference between Boq/Mcleod, and Hughes/Nico.

People read something some stat guy wrote years ago and forever hold onto it as an undeniable truth.

Possession IS defense and only neanderthals claim otherwise.

If you have the puck, they can't score. I don't care if they can't win a board battle in their own zone (which isn't even true, fwiw), because they're so good at getting the puck and keeping the puck in the offensive and neutral zones.

there's no way they spent that much time in trade negotations thinking that Meier will sign for 8x8 and if the devils are already in the 8s that's more than Jacks anyway and they offered Gaudreau in the 9's anyway

that’s absurd because jack is a $10-12m player on an $8m deal - you have to pay more than him to get proven wingers. i hope that’s not the end all be all because there’s no way to sign meier or bratt at $8m

Just checking back in, wanted to see if anyone took your throne lately as the team boards know it all.

Now get back to reminding us how Nico-Jack arent a top-6 and Boqvist is our true third top-9 center

I mean, shit, even Devils Dominion wouldnt praise the Panthers for running a top-9 lineup if their third line had a single 40pt forward and Jesper Boqvist as center. Thats some next level cheerleading
