I don't disagree about not liking the long term outlook. I said that on the main board. I have concerns there. But I don't think he ages like Lucic. I personally just think Lucic really is just a much bigger guy overall, as I said. I don't think you'll see the complete and total nose dive off the cliff.

Yeah I was off base with the Lucic comparison. Just seemed a little similar, finding a power winger to bring in to play with skill players. Meier is more skilled than Lucic ever was, as are most players in this era, and has the intelligence to fit in with our group to make up for not being as fast as out team plays. I would be a lot more comfortable with taking on Meier if we didn't go and get Palat at his current price tag. Whatever happens, happens, and the team will be better with Meier and Palat right now- I'm just thinking too far ahead and need to eNJoy the ride

Again if he is what we give up as the main thing for mier I am ok w this but a right handed goal scorer is a nice thing to have when you have guys like jack and Nico at center. See Dawson Mercer. Of course we are gonna have to give something of value to San Jose. Personally I would rather send Shara as I feel that holtz has bigger upside than Shara

Holtz can absolutely still be an effective NHL player. That doesn’t mean he’s perfect. I’m just pointing out that his skating isn’t what holds his game back, it’s other factors.

Ty Smith had high IQ and good small area skill, but his skating holds him back. Holtz is the opposite (his skating is passable, but his IQ and ability to create hold his game back).

Ya, this has devolved into a Holtz skating discussion, but my real point is that I'm OK with trading Holtz and some of the aforementioned pieces for Meier.

It’s this and his IQ. He doesn’t know how to properly read the play to get himself to the right spots and it makes him look way slower than he is.

He also has mediocre hands and issues creating his own opportunities, which compounds the IQ issues.

I think his IQ is good with the puck on his stick.

Without the puck I don't know that there is an issue with the IQ so much as just the pace, but sometimes its hard to tell the difference. He doesn't create on his own, I agree with....which makes putting him with people like Rango and Boqvist absolutely silly if you're looking to get the best from him.

Kind of a different twist on the discussion.

But I'd assume Holtz has more value then Zetterlund, but in terms of who I would rather trade, it would be Holtz.

So while I do understand not giving away value in a trade, I think there has to be an objectively look on which players are more likely to help your team win.

Possible but it took days to hammer out the Dougie deal and that was relatively painless. If they started talking at all it was or will be today.

I don't have any issue with putting him in the top 6. That's where he needs to be. You just have to live with the shortcomings on the other end. Not every top 6 guy in the league is a two way player and drives play. The question is can he put up goals and points in a way that gives you a positive net gain over his shortcomings.

Now, if we don't want to live with those shortcomings up top, then he's just not a fit on the team and we should look to move him.
