Completely disagree. If there’s anything he’s shown in the NHL to this point it’s high IQ. His skating is terrible and no where near NHL average.
It certainly seems like when he has the puck on his stick, he thinks the game well enough.

he really is not.

I think you guys see guys like Hughes and Bratt and their top end skating/edgework and therefore anything else is "atrocious"

I wouldnt call him a GOOD skater, but I wouldnt call him a BAD skater either. Hes average.
He’s terrible. There’s no way around it. Nothing to do with Hughes and Bratt. Ty Smith is a better skater than him. At least had good technique. Holtz is sloppy and awkward and has slow feet.

He’s not a terrible skater by any means.
By every mean he is.

No, put a player suited to play with talented players for at least a few games to see what you have and to bring out the most/complement his skill set.

As for the PP, I'd have no issue going Holtz on the left side, Nico as the bumper/net front, Bratt on the right side and Dougie & Jack up top.
Dougie and Jack up top, with 2 board guys?

i hope mukhamadullin isn’t part of the package if this goes down. I know he can be polarizing and how everyone values him is all over the map but I have pretty high hopes on his upside. I very well may be wrong on that though obviously. Tbh I prolly rather lose any other prospect not named Hughes/Nemec looking at it right now . But again, fitzgerald deserves to be 100% trusted at this point regardless of however this ends up playing out.

Holtz is definitely not a terrible skater. Fake narrative. He has balance and strength issues. And you look slower when you’re unsure of where to go. His actual skating isn’t that bad, that is bologna.
It’s this and his IQ. He doesn’t know how to properly read the play to get himself to the right spots and it makes him look way slower than he is.

He also has mediocre hands and issues creating his own opportunities, which compounds the IQ issues.

Obviously Mercer isn't happening and Vegas doesn't have anything to challenge that anyway. The bigger thing would be them not liking Holtz. If they think Cormier is better then that makes this a really uphill battle.
I like Holtz.. he doesn't fit in this season at this point, i would of course be ok trading him in a mier package but i think he is gonna be a solid NHL player.. can't expect much of him play so sporadically and his last 3-5 games were much better than his first several...
Agreed I like Zetterlund too, but he's completely expendable in a trade for someone like Meier.

It's a smart choice by San Jose to pick him as part of the return, Z will have a long and productive NHL career.
My morning has gone from plans to mountain bike to scaling back to just a quick trip to the gym to now the likely hood of drinking heavily.
These things happen

I won't pretend to know where his skating technique ranks, but he is definitely the slowest player on the Devils.

That's not a big deal on the PP, but it's definitely a big deal 5v5, and just not sure how it is conducive to being a good top 6 offensive minded player.

I agree. Holtz may not be an elite skater. But there are lots of good NHL players that are not elite skaters.

I've liked his puck skills actually. His inability to create is because of his skating imo.

Can't say I've really noticed this IQ issue.

I just don’t see this. I think holtz is gonna be a good player. Again if he is what we give up as the main thing for mier I am ok w this but a right handed goal scorer is a nice thing to have when you have guys like jack and Nico at center. See Dawson Mercer. Of course we are gonna have to give something of value to San Jose. Personally I would rather send Shara as I feel that holtz has bigger upside than Shara
