So us and Vegas...?

This really does feel like Hamilton situation again. There're just not many teams that can offer what the devils can. On top of that, Hamilton apparently really loves it here and CHOSE us. I think the same could be said about Timo, but we won't know that until after.

I mean Dougie might love it here but he also got like 15 mil more to come here lol. He would’ve had to take a huge cut to stay in Carolina compared to here and no one else was involved

Wasn’t there mention by Friedman last night and extension as part of the deal seems less likely at this point? I suppose that shouldn’t be a surprise, because even if that was the mantra of team(s) prior to this, sometime if you want the player, you have to adjust on certain things. Just like offers change over the course of trade negotiations, so can parameters.

Says any “forward”
It is still absurd as Jack is on a mostly RFA deal. I get you don’t want to pay him 8 and then sign guys to $10-$11 million deals to not alienate him. It if their ask is $9 mil and the Devils $8, there is room to meet in the middle. I don’t think a guy making less than a million more AAV on a mostly UFA deal (and being under Hamilton’s) deal is going to upset the Hughes camp that much.

Just checking back in, wanted to see if anyone took your throne lately as the team boards know it all.

Now get back to reminding us how Nico-Jack arent a top-6 and Boqvist is our true third top-9 center

I mean, shit, even Devils Dominion wouldnt praise the Panthers for running a top-9 lineup if their third line had a single 40pt forward and Jesper Boqvist as center. Thats some next level cheerleading

They're not a top 6. I know this because everyone who has played on the '3rd line' now has spent significant time away from Nico or Jack. The only player who has basically spent the whole year with either of those two is Bratt. Everyone else in the top 9 has spent significant time away from them. That would not be the case on a team who thought in terms of a top 6 and a bottom 6.

If the Devils acquired Meier, he would be another forward that I would expect to play with either Nico or Jack, but that's not set in stone. Frankly if the choices are between Bratt playing with Nico or Bratt playing on the 3rd line, I'd like to see Bratt with the third line some.

Like I said, no one else was able to offer what the devils could. I feel its a similar situation. The only thing that could hold that back is if Timo wants to sign with another team as well...like Vegas. I don't see them being any kind of competition though tbh (perhaps another team though).

CJ said Vegas is a team he’d want to go to

Underpay for Vrana with retention

Overpay for Boone Jenner.

So if we acquire Meier you think the possibility of him playing with Boq is above 0%?

I'm a big Boone Jenner proponent...especially on that contract. Think he'd be the offensively competent version of what we are going for by putting Haula on Jacks' wing.

But we could just easily do Vrana with retention at a discount and Buchnevich. Not quite the same as Jenner, but I'm a big Buch fan.

You fixate on the dumbest shit. No, I don't think that - right away he would be put with Hughes or Nico. If it weren't working there, or something else weren't working, there is a possibility that something else would be tried, including him playing with Boqvist. Bratt played on the third line for a game or two. They like to try different things.

The key is, they try it with a top 9 - Wood has played up on the third line a bit, and at one point they were calling the McLeod line the third line, but they really do see that as a separate unit and don't mess with it. That is not true of the 7 other forwards who aren't Nico and Jack, who they will move around.

I’d love Buch. He’s not going anywhere though. I can’t see a team like St Louis moving him when he still has term. They’re looking for a quick turnaround. You don’t accomplish that moving him.

My rule of thumb is I follow pretty much all who I consider the big dog insiders on Twitter. Friedman, LeBrun, Dreger, Johnston, Seravalli & newly added in Marek/Weekes. Also Bobby Mac although he is mostly out of the game these days. So if something doesn’t show up on my timeline, I don’t put much stock into it, if any.

I don't know what if that "pay no more than Jack" report is genuinely out there, but it's obviously bullshit. Devils should acquire Meier unextended and just work out his extension with Bratt this offseason.
