GDT: 2023 Trade Deadline

Who would we even be targeting on Vancouver though? The ship has sailed on guys like Boeser and Garland, we can't afford them anymore. I don't think any of their other forwards make sense as the type of third line depth we're looking for, and none of their defensemen are enticing either.

Not seeing a fit with them.
Holtz and 2025 first for Quin :sarcasm:

I'm not really seeing much of a fit with any names left anyone would recognize.

Henrique sounds good but he sounds pretty Injured so not sure that makes sense.

Idk I'm guessing we are basically done outside some very minor depth adds or just straight up AHL help

It doesn't say anything about them actually working on a trade or anything, says on their radar. Meier was on Fitz's radar long before Sharks decided to part with him and for what.

I wonder if there is anything left worth doing? Seems like Henrique and maybe minor league depth that can be called up in an emergency?

What else is even left out there?

Given the last couple days anything thats not bolted down is available lol

I'm sure there are some names we havent heard that might be floating around but after the Timo trade i felt the odds of the Devils doing another deal was pretty low.

It's wild because I don't remember her breaking much news before the last couple of weeks and now she's breaking everything.

She was breaking some stuff either during free agency or last year's deadline. Not a lot, but enough to where it was clear she had some sort of source somewhere.

Weekes has broken nothing as far as I can tell, at least I didn't see him as a main source for any of the trade threads. Maybe he pissed someone off, or maybe he's only connected to agents and not front offices?

Sounds like the Blue Jackets got Michael Hutchinson back from Vegas for Quick. So maybe it’ll be him playing games instead of Gillies, as he’s one of the most popular third string guys there is.

I can't believe the Flyers have still yet to do anything.

The thing with Arizona is I don't feel they are doing anything wrong by being a cap launderer while keeping expenses down since they are flat broke without an arena.

It's just a bad look for the league as a whole to have a franchise in this state of poverty. Arena should help that but who knows for sure? This is a franchise that has only gotten out of the 1st round once and has never felt like they were turning a corner.

I assume public funds are being used in the new arena deal and I do think it's really difficult to ask anyone in that area to fund a new building for this team right now.

If Armstrong can turn it around then that's good for the league, but let's see it happen first as this team has been selling for what feels like a decade.

If i lived in Tempe, I would be hard pressed to vote yes on this proposal.

They aren’t asking for any public funds to build the new arena in Tempe. They privately funding it and then ask for tax breaks, like every other real estate developer.

I guess there’s a vote in May.

If the Wings are selling Suter then that’d be a nice depth option. Would probably be too expensive though

If Fitz is looking for depth and grit, the only ones that fit the bill is:

Nick Ritchie $2.5m (one of Boqvist or Sharangovich will need to be sent in return as Arizona have already utilized their 3 max retain slots)

Nick Bonino $2.05m (can fit within our cap without a player to be sent. SJ could also retain too)

Andreas Athanasiou $3m (would require Sharangovich to be sent in return)

Adam Henrique $5.825m (would require Anaheim to retain 50% and Sharangovich to be sent in return)

------
Personally i think Sharangovich > Athanasiou so i wouldn't do that deal.

Henrique is probably a no go due to his injury.

Nick Ritchie for Boqvist, i'll probably be OK with.

Nick Bonino for a pick is probably the easiest deal to be made and allows us to keep Sharangovich and Boqvist.

Also I don't think we are looking at defensive depth due to how Kevin Bahl is playing. And I think they want to have the option of inserting Luke Hughes after his finishes at Michigan.

I said this earlier but it’s almost 100% because his primary sources are agents and players rather than front offices/GMs. So he’s not going to get much at the deadline.

You never know, but I would think that if Fitz wanted Bonino, he would have been included in the Meier trade.

Kind of odd to go back to the well again like that.

Kind of agree, why I dismissed him when I saw he was still on TSN's trade board.

We could also toss Wood overboard to free space if needed...though I doubt Fitz does that for locker room reasons

Elliotte Friedman just on Sportsnet hockey central said he expects New Jersey to be active tomorrow. Said we could be looking to improve D
