GDT: 2023 Trade Deadline

No matter what happens tomorrow, I want to keep Holtz. If he wasn’t going out for Meier, I want him to stay long term. The organizational depth at forward is, pretty much, just him.
The only way I’d move him would be for a player with term on a great contract. Don’t know anyone that fits that criteria. We need his ELC, things will get tight when (if) we lock up our big guns.

What about MB for Vejmelka ?
I would think it would take a lot more than Blackwood to get Vejmelka, who is on a very affordable contract for two more years. Although I'd love to have an all Czech goalie duo.

I'm not spending valuable assets on goaltending yet. Vanecek has been more than adequate as a starter and Schmid has looked solid in limited action as a backup. Now, if Vanecek melts down in the playoffs, maybe it becomes more of a priority in the offseason.

Novo said that the impression he got was that holtz wasn't valued as much league wide as people thought. If that's the case, I don't think it's likely he's going anywhere

what depth defensemen are rumored to be available? i stopped trying to keep up on this crazy shit a while ago, i have no idea who is on what team. for all i know, the league briefly folded this afternoon.

I guess teams have forgotten his AHL numbers, see him in Lindy's doghouse, and assume his value has dropped. If we're still seeing him primarily as a trade chip, he'll need to have a strong start next season to build his value back up. And if we plan to keep him as a cheap ELC option, we also want to see him start producing in that case too.

The unfortunate thing is that I still believe in his talent, I just don't believe in it for NJ lol

Totally a reasonable opinion to have, given how he has trended. But I still think he can put it together with some more exposure in the top 6. Long term, I think he's probably expected to replace Tatar in the top 6.

Or rather, Tatar will probably be re-signed to be a bridge to when Holtz can reliably take over that spot.

What about MB for Vejmelka ?
Why? What’s the point? It’s a lateral move.

Vejmelka has two years left at close to $3 million.

I’m not sure Vejmelka is really all that much better than Blackwood. Who could still be a mediocre goalie having a good season behind a bad team.

Basically if he goes bad again next year, we’ve basically given Blackwood his qualifying offer, plus one more year to it.

And it blocks Schmid. He won’t play here full time the next two years unless somebody gets injured or Vejmelka reverts to last year and is inevitably waived and buried in the minors.

I could’ve sworn I saw fitzgerald mention in an interview that he might look to add a goalie at the deadline. Does anyone else remember that or am I just losing my marbles?

Nah you’re right. In an interview with The Athletic a few days ago, he said this:

And we’ll talk about maybe there’s a goalie piece out there that we should consider, too, just in case, especially after what we went through last year with using seven goalies. You just don’t know. So that’s all.

Another 5 goal on 22 shots game from Reimer tonight.

Stay the hell away.

I’m surprised Vegas didn’t try to get him, as the Sharks have traded goalies with them before.

I don't wanna block Akira. I would watch how things going in the end of the season and may be think about it this summer again, but for now we have adequate duo.
I want to save other assets, because our forward prospect pool isn't very strong now and prefer to spend picks on the draft. I don't thinks Arizona will trade V for MB 1 on 1. Im not saying that this trade with including B assets isn't bad idea, but I think they will ask 1st round pick or Holtz. If they want Foote or Walsh than ok, but I just can't believe in it. If trade is cheap, we can sail Vejmelka this summer.

I really would like to get some more ammo for the 3rd line and if somehow possible another goalie. I feel fine with the defense.

jackets retaining 50% of quick's contract....and another joke franchise just there to help facilitate a trade

Huh?

Blue Jackets weren't picking up Quick to help facilitate any trade. They had to take his cap hit back from the Kings in as part of a deal that netted them a conditional 1st & 3rd round pick.

Quick was never going to play for Columbus and had very little value. Wouldn't be a good look on Columbus' part to suspend him either without pay. They did him a solid and received a minor asset in return by dealing him to Vegas, while also saving some money in the process by only having to pay 50% of his remaining salary.

Don't get why anyone would have a problem with this trade.

They also just spent big on Gaudreau as a UFA. They gave Laine a big deal. They’re not averse to spending. They just suck. They’re doing what they can to improve the future. Arizona took a worse deal because they didn’t want to take on money. Not even remotely the same
