How do we do that without sending Severson back out?

A depth RD we can stash in Utica I can get, but if he is looking to improve the starting 6...I'm not sure how?
We could get Kulikov if Anaheim retains or send Bahl down to AHL if Kulikov is acquired for a pick.

If we do get a depth D, they wouldn't be stashed in Utica imo. They tried that with Harrington and he got claimed straight away.

I get he is a rookie, but Bahl seems to have found his game. I don't think sending him down is a good move, especially for Kulikov who isn't really better then current Bahl or Smith TBH

I’m guessing a depth player. There are no roster limits after tomorrow.

Still have cap limits. So they would need to make sure they can fit the “extra” players under the cap.

These will likely be small moves anyway depth bottom 6 or bottom pairing guys maybe a goalie.

I’m still skeptical anything will happen honestly.

Kinda feel bad for Boqvist, he’s really been playing well but he’s probably the guy that gets removed from the lineup if they add anyone they want to play right away.

Looks like Vancouver is trying to get some “fine” young-ish type guys and simply re-tool? Not sure that’s the move, but it seems like that’s what they’re doing… Beauvilier, Bear, Hronek, etc.
It’s about the only way to turn it around without nuking the entire roster. Its low cost , high reward , high risk though. Risk because they are counting on a change of scenery turning a player around. Doesmt happen all that often but with the cap trouble they are in and comtracts that are impossible to move (OEL Myers)

Im pretty sure I’m alone on this one , but I’d like to trade Holtz for Demko.
Demko’s goalie coach has to come along (he’s one of the best in the world )

Zadorov would be interesting to add. Not sure what his contract is like and no idea what thenhell the Flames will do. I thnk they are still deciding. They are done IMO and need to sell.

Who would we even be targeting on Vancouver though? The ship has sailed on guys like Boeser and Garland, we can't afford them anymore. I don't think any of their other forwards make sense as the type of third line depth we're looking for, and none of their defensemen are enticing either.

Not seeing a fit with them.
Holtz for Demko.

Holtz for Demko.
Hmmm...a top 10 pick to Vancouver for a goalie...sounds familiar...

I don't even want Demko anymore

The only thing wrong with our goaltending right now is we're paying too much for it

Let that shit bag and injury case go next year and we cut our goaltending payroll by roughly $1.7 million for no worse than the same results and likely even better results.

And I'm not including Bernier, who's been on LTIR the entire year.

At some point in the next few years Id like to go big on a package for a goaltender whos in a bad contract situation/on a bad team

Very rare goalies get moved so odds are its a Daws or Schmid who pans out for us, but a long-term starter is almost the last puzzle piece. Would be great to get one.

I like Vanecek but idk if hes the goalie of the future, hes already 27. Not that old but not that young either. And will need a new contract after two more seasons

Vanecek may just be a stop gap for a few years, possibly while Schmid is eased in or maybe someone else we acquire down the road.

Vanecek is just an average/a little above average goalie, but there's many teams that just have these average/a little above average goalies.

I haven't closed the door on Daws, but he's clearly regressed since we called him up and kept him on the NHL roster for over half the year last season. Nothing is set in stone, but I think Daws has the higher ceiling at the moment.

I'm confident we'll figure it out, but we badly need to move on from the decrepit #29, His February of 2020 was arguably the best 7 games of goaltending in a calendar month in Devils history, but it's time to move on. That's not even close to who he is.

If Hellebuyck were on this team right now we'd have to be a cup favorite. But even he's just about 30 years old now.

I honestly think we should add Vejmelka . Im not saying he is our goalie of the future or anything or that he is an amazing goalie . Just as insurance instead of Blackwood . MB is hurt too often , let alone his play is way too inconsistent.
Something like Demko is a pipe dream but Vejmelka trwde for MB I think sets us up better for the rest of this year. Counting on MB is not a recipe for success. Amd asking Schmid to come into a playoff series is not the greatest idea in the world either. On them other hand , it’s not like Vejmelka is some grizzled playoff veteran himself .

I don't have any interest in Vejmelka either

Vejmelka is signed for 2 more years and that blocks Schmid from coming up.

Vejmelka has 2 more years left after this and at about the same salary as Blackwood is making this year.

Vejmelka also was terrible last year, but not bad this year. And those are the only 2 years we have to go on with him. He's also like 26 and not 23-24, so it's not like he's a young stud with a huge ceiling to still potentially hit.

Just roll with Vanecek and Schmid, both for the rest of this year and all of next.

It would be a really massive kick to the balls if Schmid couldn't make the NHL team next year. And we're only gonna wind up spending more money on goaltending that isn't any better. Like Blackwood.

It would be risky given his injury history and how he has played this year when he wasn’t hurt.
But he has the ability to be a top 5 goalie in the league.

We’re paying Vanecek 3.4. That’s a good deal. Sure Demko could be great but why take that risk of adding a 5 mil goalie (for probably a lofty price) when we don’t need to. Avs won a Cup with Kuemper having one eye. We’re building to having an Avs type skater group. Vanecek’s good enough to win with.

I'm pretty confident one of him or Schmid can work it out.

If we can go cheap on goaltending next year (due to Schmid being on an ELC) then that would be fantastic and help us spend more elsewhere.

No matter what happens tomorrow, I want to keep Holtz. If he wasn’t going out for Meier, I want him to stay long term. The organizational depth at forward is, pretty much, just him.

I don’t see how there’s anyone to move him for. After keeping him for Meier then Chychrun was the only Holtz option. Pls just get Holtz to work

Elliotte Friedman just on Sportsnet hockey central said he expects New Jersey to be active tomorrow. Said we could be looking to improve D
Personally, I'm fine with a L. Hughes, Smith or Bahl as our #6. Our top 5 should not be touched at all.

I could see a depth forward to upgrade over Yegor/Boqvist but that is about it. 8/9 top 9 spots are set and the BMW is likely going to be our 4th line in the playoffs.
