Meh… I don’t hate the price, especially because I never saw Mancini as more than a 4-6 and Chytil is a 40 game player regardless of how good he is. I like the things Miller brings to a very “soft” room… I’m not unhappy with the trade but I’m just not really seeing the vision here unless we actually find a way to offload Zibanejad. Miller isn’t gonna be the 1C on a Cup winner, but Miller and Trochek are fantastic middle six centers with character. Problem remains the same as always… no 1C, no cup.
That's a lot of self inflicted pain.lol, I'm a Rangers, Mets, Giants, fan. Why would I be happy. And I'm old, tired of seeing the endless squandering of assets. I will say I am overall happy with the trade. It heavily favors the Rangers. But if it's a trade that supposed to supplement the current vet core, than yeah I like it less. However if it's the first domino in more moves to come (Kreider, Lindgren, hopefully Zib down the road), and a complete shift from our veteran core than it may be the greatest move in a long time.
I don't know about this year's version but isn't he a multiple 100 point player? Why are people in 2025 acting like you still need Crosby in his prime as a #1 center on a cup winner?
He eats on the PP and we already have a ton of power play merchants. He stinks defensively so all he does is magnify the problems they already haveI don't know about this year's version but isn't he a multiple 100 point player? I really could not care less about anything outside of winning a Stanley Cup man Those conference finals might mean something to someone, and I'm happy they do, but for me? Nah. I'd take being an Avs fan, they got their cup. But with the Caps and to an extent Blues, yeah you're right. Vegas it's hard to put in any category. But going back as far as the Wings, you have 17 years with 3 exceptions to the rule of building a proper team for long term success. We're getting too old for praying luck is on our side.I think mediocrity is pretty much the norm league wide. Obviously you need good players to win but I really haven't seen much in the last few years, probably since Chicago/Pittsburgh, that doesn't make me think it's all just changing things around until you hopefully strike gold.
The mediocre Rangers went to more Conference Finals than the Avs with McKinnon, Landeskog, Rantananen and Makar, and now they've started dismantling that group (doesn't mean they can't go up again).
The Caps were the definition of mediocre until they weren't and won one with an ageing core.
The Blues were just flat out lucky
Vegas just keeps throwing darts until one lands
You do need some kind of plan, and I think Drury has one even though he is terrible at telling us what it is (and we may not like it anyway), but I think league wide there's a lot of 'put everyone in the car and then let Jesus take the wheel'
This is spot on. He’s skilled and has a decent (but grossly overrated) one timer. He used to be responsible defensively and decent at face offs. All in all, he was a good shooter and didn’t really excel at anything. A good second line center who overachieved one year and is now in rapid decline.I wonder if people would have been OK with Zibanejad being traded this past offseason coming off a 72-point season after putting up a career high the prior season for this exact package. I know I would have. Vancouver getting out of the miller contract at the right time.
Drury has made all of those guys available.Yeah, like, I could get behind this in a vacuum as an overall makeover of the team, if they decided to do that.
It doesn't feel like that. Until they prove to me otherwise, this is the Rangers kicking the can again because they can't help themselves.

What about 2 of the 3 scenario? Thanks for the new thread.
I hate what this deal represents. If it signals a culture change and Krieder, Lindgren, and Zibanejad are gone in separate deals, fine.
Fantastic point. And since Quinn, the “construction” has been = The Globetrotters. (And don’t get me wrong, they’re fun to watch when it’s working.)A winner in this league requires a team that has focus in their construction with the time needed to nurture it. How long until we finally get that in New York?
Okay, that's fair to frame it that way.Miller's absolutely a fantastic player but a majority of us did not believe this.
Rutherford primed the ones who did a week ago when he foreshadowed the trade.
There's a contingent who thought they shouldn't have made this trade without those pieces. Those people still think that.
If you reframed it as "Some Vancouver fans felt that trading a 1C who's recently removed from a 100 point season and decent success matching up against McDavid without getting back some more notable pieces who can make a difference" - that'd be more accurate.
There's absolutely a strong contingent, if not a majority, who felt that this was pretty screwed and is what it is and needed to be done to move on. Which sucks.
and that's fair enough. But 99% of your sports watching experience is going to suck then, so make sure you've got other things you enjoyI really could not care less about anything outside of winning a Stanley Cup man Those conference finals might mean something to someone, and I'm happy they do, but for me? Brother you're telling me. I'm a Jets fan too.and that's fair enough. But 99% of your sports watching experience is going to suck then, so make sure you've got other things you enjoy
Isn’t Jones on a two-way? Can that type of contract be termed?he [Jones] could always go the Brandon Saad route. Refuse to go to Hartford and force the Rangers to terminate his contract.
I like it for the simple fact alone that JT Miller is a prick (on top of being a good hockey player with a 100pt ceiling) and that’s what we’ve needed for years. Milquetoast and bland core forever. Now we have our prick to lead us.
Chytil, Mancini and a protected first is legitimately pennies on the dollar for a player of JT’s caliber. Vancouver fans thought they were getting some combo of Laf, Schneider, K’Andre and a first maybe Perrault. Half their fans wanted to trade Petterson to keep JT. I personally love Fil but with his health I’m okay with him being the roster piece we moved. I’d bet good money Chytil doesn’t out produce miller at any point in the coming years. Kept our top prospects and got conditions on the first.
This could be a prelude to a Mika trade this summer as well.
Would’ve been a 10/10 if the pick was lower than a first but for me this is a good move.
Yeah this is the biggest indictment of whatever Drury’s “vision” isAlso, we're really f***ing old, and don't really feel close to winning.
Even taking the most generous view possible, nobody would say this is a top 5 team. Top 1 wins the Stanley Cup.
