Agreed, their core is old and could fall off a cliff. Rooting for the rags to tank this year and next will be pretty easy. Could have two cracks at McKenna next year considering the Pens will assuredly be terrible.

If the rangers pick is in the teens this year, that’s a real good outcome despite this supposedly being a “weak draft”.

As amazing as it would be to get a high pick off them in 2026 - with their goalie I can’t see them being bottom 5-10 bad 2 years in a row. I will hope for it though.

I dunno. Their core's aging out and a couple guys already look rough in Zibanejad and Kreider. Panarin's gonna be 34. Lafreniere's $7.5M AAV kicks in. Igor's $11.5M AAV kicks in. You've got like $60M tied up in Panarin, Igor, Zibanejad, Kreider, JT Miller, Lafreniere, and Trocheck.

Geno has more points than Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Trocheck and twice as many as Kreider. And we're all talking about how cooked Geno's looked this season, to put it in perspective.

It's no sure thing but that Rangers team next year might be in for some shit. Either way, Dubas for a 1st for Petts, I'm happy with that whether it's like the 15th, 20th or a top 10.

I also like getting Fernstrom in the deal. A young RW who has a nice shot and is playing in the top league in Sweden right now. He can stay in Sweden for a couple of years.

DOC is waiver fodder, so that's whatever. Petts fits a need on their blueliner so it's a good pickup for the Canucks. Pens get a "let's see what happens" prospect in Fernstrom and a 1st that might end up being a top 10 pick next year if the Rangers' core continues to decline.

I just hope Dubas is still working the phones to gauge interest in guys like Rakell and Bunting as well.

One of Rakell or Bunting will be gone by the deadline. I'd be shocked if they both are dealt.

You mean after he had him in the top 6 for months where when he finally went cold he was entirely off his game and was still in the lineup a while before he was finally healthy scratched and the same was done to Rodrigues?

There's a pattern of it, he ruined Doc in that same way. It's what he also did to McCann except when he demoted Mccann it was to a usage he belonged in but even then he somehow f***ed that up.

Fernstrom seems like a Cruz level prospect so we can wait and see. 2024 3rd is not the worst addition. So really, DOC+Petts for 1st+3rd is about right in line with history. Just bummed about taking back that much cap vs retention.

But that leads to another interesting discussion - we have an extra retention slot. I'm wondering if Dubas made this deal taking back Heinen and Desharnais was to keep that slot open.

Pretty rough from Vancouver IMO. Either ends up as simply fair to solid if the pick is a late 1st and both guys play well.

Other end of the range is the NYR pick ends up in the lottery and neither Petts nor OC play all too great.

Just doesn’t feel like a high upside move for them.
