Seemed stoked about it in 2017.

Can’t imagine what has changed since then.

Well considering he moved him down the lineup and limited his ice time, I’m going to say no,lol…but who knows, he might love that option now that he has Tomasino and Poolparty lol

It’s a thing that keeps happening, we keep reaquiring players who the coach soured on for some reason. POJ, Kap. Can’t imagine what the constant there is.

I'm fine with it. Don't really think there's much to complain about. We got a first that could potentially be very high, and that's what the trade is about.

If the rangers pick is in the teens this year, that’s a real good outcome despite this supposedly being a “weak draft”.

As amazing as it would be to get a high pick off them in 2026 - with their goalie I can’t see them being bottom 5-10 bad 2 years in a row. I will hope for it though.
I dunno. Their core's aging out and a couple guys already look rough in Zibanejad and Kreider. Panarin's gonna be 34. Lafreniere's $7.5M AAV kicks in. Igor's $11.5M AAV kicks in. You've got like $60M tied up in Panarin, Igor, Zibanejad, Kreider, JT Miller, Lafreniere, and Trocheck.

Geno has more points than Zibanejad, Lafreniere, Trocheck and twice as many as Kreider. And we're all talking about how cooked Geno's looked this season, to put it in perspective.

It's no sure thing but that Rangers team next year might be in for some shit. Either way, Dubas for a 1st for Petts, I'm happy with that whether it's like the 15th, 20th or a top 10.

Fernstrom write up. Seems like a solid lottery ticket tbh.

On first blush this seems like a solid return and maybe better than might have been expected.

Sad to say goodbye to both dudes as they were good Penguins but that's just part and parcel.

Is this a win?

With the stated goal of "rebuilding", yes.

Eating up cap space for two dorks like Desharnais and Heinen is very upsetting next year, but I guess "if people want to bet against Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Sullivan and others, "they can do, but I'm going to bet on them" was just more politician bullshit from an absolutely detestable clown.

DOC is waiver fodder, so that's whatever. Petts fits a need on their blueliner so it's a good pickup for the Canucks. Pens get a "let's see what happens" prospect in Fernstrom and a 1st that might end up being a top 10 pick next year if the Rangers' core continues to decline.

I just hope Dubas is still working the phones to gauge interest in guys like Rakell and Bunting as well.
One of Rakell or Bunting will be gone by the deadline. I'd be shocked if they both are dealt.

I may hate Dubas, but at least he isn't a completely ego driven f***ing moron like JR..

“We had to give up something to get him, but Marcus is one heck of a defenseman,” Rutherford said. “I traded for him when I was in Pittsburgh, and I’m very happy with how that one turned out. I traded Daniel Sprong for him, and I can still remember people saying, ‘How on earth can you trade Daniel Sprong for this guy?’ Well, I’m pretty darn happy with how that worked out. How good did that trade work out? And here we are again. We need an upgrade, and he’s going to give us that. I know that he will.”

Jesus christ.

You mean after he had him in the top 6 for months where when he finally went cold he was entirely off his game and was still in the lineup a while before he was finally healthy scratched and the same was done to Rodrigues?

There's a pattern of it, he ruined Doc in that same way. It's what he also did to McCann except when he demoted Mccann it was to a usage he belonged in but even then he somehow f***ed that up.

My contention was always that Pettersson+DOC could return a first. I thought there would be 50% retention which I would have preferred over taking Heinen and Desharnais. Fernstrom seems like a Cruz level prospect so we can wait and see. 2024 3rd is not the worst addition. So really, DOC+Petts for 1st+3rd is about right in line with history. Just bummed about taking back that much cap vs retention.

But that leads to another interesting discussion - we have an extra retention slot. I'm wondering if Dubas made this deal taking back Heinen and Desharnais was to keep that slot open.

Looking at the 1st, top 13 protected, we can look towards a guy like Carter Bear or Ivan Ryabkin which would be an excellent addition. Or, as others have said, if it pushed to 2026...that could be interesting. Maybe the hockey gods shine upon us and we get a Ottawa-Colorado or Ottawa-SJS situation where it turns into a high pick.

I think it's obvious they took back the cap in hopes of having that flexibility. Wonder what they do with it.

Pretty rough from Vancouver IMO. Either ends up as simply fair to solid if the pick is a late 1st and both guys play well.

Other end of the range is the NYR pick ends up in the lottery and neither Petts nor OC play all too great.

Just doesn’t feel like a high upside move for them.
Both of them are freed of an absolutely shitty coach and system. They'll rebound, especially Drew who won't be used like a f***ing idiot for once in his NHL career.
