I'm starting to wonder if Marek either has bad intel or jumped the gun on Guenther. Another two assists (and 15 minutes TOI) last night puts him on a nearly 50 point pace. I can't recall a player with that type of production and ice time being loaned before.
It’s a shameless tank move?

Does anyone know whether there is going to be a preview show once the selection camp roster is announced I'd assume this would be Monday or Tuesday? Usually there is one where Bob Mckenzie tells who the locks are. Also does anyone know whether the pretournament games will be on TV during the summer it wasn't but usually they are. I really hope they are.

I haven't had too much time to look into it but the forward group looks really good, especially with Guenther and Wright added. The D has potential behind Zellweger with a few high picks from this year who could get a look. I have no idea what to expect from the goaltending, but it doesn't look there's any real studs in net from any teams across the board.

Assuming the 3 NHL guys get released I would have the following as locks:

Guenther, Wright, Stankoven, Bedard, Fantilli, Othmann, Roy, Ostapchuk, Kidney and Gaucher.
Zellweger, Lambos, Clarke, Del Mastro

That leaves 4 F, 4 D and 3 G. I expect Savoie and Ceulemans to make it, though wouldn't quite lock them in. So 3 guys for each position, which for goalie I have literally 0 idea, I would guess there are likely multiple locks there as well

I still am not convinced that Lambos and Kidney are locks - but a great post nonetheless.

Goaltending is completely up in the air. You have two goalies that have a history with HC in Tyler Brennen and Benjamin Gaudreau but both haven't played great this year - in Brennen's case, he has been outplayed in Prince George by Vancouver Canucks draftee Ty Young and is splitting the starts with him. Not something you want to see out of a guy that many have acclaimed as a favorite to be the starter.

Other names that could get a call to camp:

Thomas Milic - Seattle
Michael Simpson - Peterbourgh
Domenic DiVincenciis - North Bay
William Rousseau - Quebec
Cameron Whitehead - Lincoln (USHL)
Kyle Kelsey - Red Deer

Lambos has had a really good last few games.

I know neither one of them played much this summer, but I usually just slot in the returnees as locks unless there's a clear reason not to. They're both producing at a similar pace they did last year, and while there are a bunch of younger players that got drafted early this summer who could pass Lambos on the back end the last tournament was just 4 months ago so I lean even more towards the returnees than I normally would.

As for the goalies I did take a look but it's all so bad I just have no idea which bad option is better. The quick look I had had me leaning Milic because he's been better this year but who knows. At least the goalies look bad for everyone across the board. USA has a couple of undrafted returnees that I had no confidence in last year and a double underager who I don't expect them to play. Sweden has a ok undrafted goalie who I think starts and might be the best goalie for the big 4 but it's not that scary to face. Then Finland has 3 drafted goalies but the 2 higher drafted ones are 18 and have been bad this year too, but the 3rd doesn't look inspiring either.

I love that Canada could potentially have the 2 best lines in the tournament. We all know they won’t go with these lines but fun to consider.

Wright, Bedard, Fantilli, Stankoven, Roy, then take your pick of a huge group of players.

That’s assuming they don’t get Guenther… lmao

Something like
Roy - Wright - Stankoven
Othmann/Guenther (lol)/anyone else - Fantilli - Bedard

Issue is going to be defence (maybe) and goaltending as always. Forward group should be insane.

I like Thomas Milic and Cameron Whitehead, Going to be interesting. A name you didn’t mention who I like is William Blackburn, played for Canada U17. Recording a .913% so far with minimal help on D so his GAA is a little high. I like everyone’s odds. Should be interesting.

wouldn’t mind seeing Carson Bjarnason get a camp invite.
Was thinking about that but I couldn’t remember the last 17 year old goalie to make the WJC - he also was the second string to Scott Ratzlaff at the Hlinka.

It’s what I’m most interested in for the camp announcement.

Goaltending is wide open this year.

Goaltending is starting to worry me neither of the top 19 year olds are having a great year. I don't know the chances of hockey Canada using a goalie in the USHL or a 17 year old is just incredibly unlikely. Although with all the stuff going on in Hockey Canada maybe things are changing Bjarnesson sounds like an interesting candidate but what is the record for 17 year old goalies playing in the world juniors for the big five countries. Askarov who was not good, Vasilivesky who was mostly good and Campbell who was mostly the US's backup up until the gold medal game. Are their any others I can't think of? I got to say the pressure Canadian world junior goalies face on a 17 year old seems like a bad idea.

It’s too bad Gabriel D’Aigle is only 16, he’s going to be an absolute star in the future

. I love a good surprise underdog story when it comes to a goaltender. But I sure do miss having a Carter Hart or Zach Fucale in the crease… it’s coming though!

I think someone that could get an invite today that may surprise is Colby Barlow.

It’s shocking what a down year it is for goalies across the board. I’ve never seen such an underwhelming crop for pretty much every team. The bright side is that this represents a nice opportunity for someone to really step up and put themselves on the map with a strong performance.

I do not expect a 17 year old goaltender. I don't think that Canada has ever selected one, and I don't recall one ever being invited to camp. Hopefully there is some honest competition in the camp.

I went through elite prospects.

Canada has had 2 17 year old goalies play for the team.

Brian Finley in 1998-99

Terry Wright in 1979-80

Neither Played more than one game.
