Since it seems the Ducks will likely finish bottom 5 this year, I figured we should have a thread for discussing the implications of where the f***s will finish in the standings. As well as what factors could affect where they finish.

Tonight was interesting as all bottom 5 teams earned 2 points sans the Ducks and the Hawks.

Hey Folks,

Want to clear some of the air here, Tank talk is not an issue, please talk tank to your heart’s content here, totally understand how critical it is for that Future Potential Top pick. The issue is posting in the GDT, like you want the team to lose or make posts that you are angry they are winning or won the game, or bashing the team for not tanking.

The main reason is, to respect your fellow members. The GDT is about discussion of the game on a live basis and then post game discussion and opinions. A lot of fans are not rooting for the team to lose, and everyone has their views and opinions towards tanking, and may not want to discuss tanking in the GDT

If you guys have any concerns, feel free to PM me or another mod, and would be happy to explain more in detail.

Thanks!

Leo

The lottery is way too much of a factor to really worry about a few percentage points. Here’s hoping though :)

Yes, assuming you don’t finish last, there isn’t much difference between finishing 2nd from the bottom, 3rd from the bottom, etc. But what I think we need to worry about is if we lose the lottery (which is likely for any team, not just us), we want to be in the best possible position to still get a top 3 or 4 pick.

the gaucher pick was awful from the start
I feel like you’re the only person I’ve ever seen say this.

Every coach he’s ever played for has given him glowing reviews and he was a vital part of the WJC team winning. Also the second half of the first round can be a crapshoot so even if he wasn’t the most exciting the pick was not even remotely “awful.”

Anaheims remaining schedule is actually a decent bit easier than Chicagos. Colombia does have a pretty tough schedule though.

The Ducks still have many games to play against the bottom feeders. If they want to make up for their relatively easier schedule the best thing they can do is lose those games against CBJ, ARI, and CHI.

That doesn’t show the wild card teams though. The Edmontons, Kraken, Preds, Islanders, Avs, 🔥 etc . The majority of the remaining teams Anaheim has are mostly wild card.

Which isn’t a push over when they are trying to get in.

No, that ranking factors in the overall points percentage of every game opponent each team has left, averages them out and then returns an SOS score (strength of schedule). Meaning for the remainder of the season, by point percentage, Chicago has a tougher schedule.

I’d argue that what will be more important than the teams they play will be WHEN they play. IE the ducks have a bit of wind in their sails rn, but Boston can easily put them back on their but. Or if they can get more of their easy opponents matched up against them post deadline when the blue line is gutted.

Well I’ll go ahead and be deferred, strength of schedule doesn’t include the tenacity of bubble teams who are going to be fighting for playoff positions and wild card.

The statistics also doesn’t show how a team feels whether it’s a contract year for some major players, or a push for the playoffs for longevity of a career.

The statistics show simply good teams and bad teams. No In between teams regarding the circumstances of the roster going forward.

I have to respectfully disagree, I think the bubble teams who aren’t the slam dunk for playoffs are the most dangerous to the teams compared to whom are slam dunks. Those are the ones to be scared about regarding the schedule

I’ll concede that, but imo you can make that same argument for CHI as well. Their next 4 games are Calgary, Colorado, Seattle, and Buffalo. All teams on the bubble who want their spot in the final 16.

I’m not trying to be difficult btw lol 😂. Just enjoying the discussion.

Oh! I hope you never felt that way! It’s a positive discussion. I just feel more teams are on the schedule? Whom are trying to make a name for themselves.

This is comparison of Chicago’s schedule. But I would consider Columbus being absolutely brutal, Anaheim second brutal due to solid bubbles. And Chicago last due to teams in the standings who aren’t likely making roster moves compared to ours.

Almost all of our schedule has been rumored for trades. And that hasn’t been considered in that data 🤷‍♂️

How have we not had major injuries yet? Not voting for them but the one year we are looking to bottom out our team is healthy

Not sure where to post this? But man have I been impressed with Reinbacher for Austria during the world juniors.

Big 6 foot 2 right shot defenseman who can handle the puck well. His skating is amazing and takes that alpha male role on the back end amazingly well. He certainly is a power play quarterback. And he can break out like no bodies business behind his own net.

Truly impressed with this kid Ducks fans. Here’s video of em if y’all got time to watch. 😳

I wouldn’t be shocked if he goes top 10. What a special player for Austria! I want em if we get another pick

Chicago up on top of the Flames right now.

Guenther bringing his skill set back home to Coyotes right now from world juniors. They are also winning as well.

Columbus in a race with Capitals.

Exciting hockey if anyone is watching, it’s a foot race at Bedard…….had a huge hunch this would end up like this
