@Peen mentioned it, but it seems that Arsenal is very close to signing Gundogan. Sloppy seconds again and then City go out and buy Caicedo (probably) lol.
Here is my issues with Mac Allister (and I like Mac Allister a lot)

- I don’t think he helps with LFC’s athleticism issues in midfield; he’s great at what he does but I don’t thinks he helps in the pace/power department

- If him and Mount are the main targets, I think they are redundant.

- see above point but I think (to use an Italian plumber analogy) Mac Allister (and Mount) are very good at Luigi. I don’t know if either are Mario. LFC need a Mario is that let of the pitch; maybe they think Jones and/or Trent can handle that but I really think they need another alpha in that room. Like Barella; that’s a Mario type. Bellingham is a Mario type. Mount is another Luigi.

Might be explaining this weird but maybe you see what I mean. I think the bigger Alexis price tag is, the more likely he would be the “best” midfielder that they bring in. Basically I think if Alexis is the 2nd best midfielder that comes in; it’s a good thing. If he is the best midfielder that comes in; not so much
Mac Allister is this generation's Aaron Ramsey, a beast goalscoring midfielder and one of the best in the EPL going forward. He will help push the ball forward for you lot big time and probably will have a role that Firmano had albeit in a different position. The thing is, is he really needed when you lot have Gakpo? Gakpo always needs to be played in a forward position for the best results regardless, but he seems to have a similar impact as Alexis. LFC needs someone like SMS, a proper box-to-box CM that can play at both ends of the pitch. Arsenal does too, but more on the defensive side like Fabinho.

i wouldn’t be worried about what i am doing to gakpo if i’m signing a clear talent upgrade in mac allister personally

They already solved the Gakpo situation by letting Bobby leave. We can rotate the team every week and there’s five subs. Coincidentally that’s why our midfield died this season too because there wasn’t enough players to make those subs.

The player most effected by Mac Allister would be Jordan Henderson. He’s not having an impact on Gakpo.

The real Gakpo question is what he did to Darwin and/or Diogo (and vis-a-vis to Diaz)

Yes, Gakpo replaces Firmano, but my concern is that he and Alexis have some sort of a similar impact. Both are goalscorers, even if they don't really play the same way (Alexis is more of a dribbler and more agile, Cody is better built).

It’s the least on my worries of that signing. I’m more worried about general athleticism and creating width

Alexis is like the least width player I've seen, loves going straight down the middle, but that doesn't mean that makes LFC worse. He brings another element even if clubs can shut him down easier with a ton of midfielders.

He’s an upgrade on what they have. The issue is if he in the “best” midfielder that they bring in. Need to consider the mix.

My heart is broken. Ugarte is a beast. :(
Will be interesting to see who are the winners and losers of this summer midfield shuffle in the PL 12 months from now.

Chelsea seem like they’re going to lose everyone bar Kante and Enzo. Kova, RLC, Mount, Gallagher rumored to be on the outs.

City’s potentially losing Gundogan and want to move on from Phillips.

Arsenal are moving on from Xhaka and want to make two signings.

etc. united, liverpool, tottenham. newcastle will be looking to splash as well.

I am always fascinated on how large football clubs operate. They always like new signings to compensate their lack of team planning. Every year you can see them throw bunch load of money at new players while there are always cheaper alternative if they planned years ahead.

I am still angry and frustrated at how LFC have handled their midfield for the past 3 or 4 years. Lack of vision and poor team planning not to mention lack of funding overall by FSG in that regard. I certainly never understood what Klopp and/or the recruiting team was thinking by keeping the same players and let them grow old together without bringing any new players. If they had brought in, one new midfield per year for the past 3 years they would not need a full rotation like they are doing now. It was obvious for most of the fans but not for them with even Klopp admitting that he was wrong :shakehead

Chelsea turnaround of the squad is unheard of and they are about to make similar mistake again. I get it (kind of), they want to build a team for the future but at the same time having that many new players is quite unsettling and difficult to make them work cohesively. Now they want a fully revamped midfield.

United, I am still on the fence. I like what Ten Hag has done the past year but at the same time I feel they lack quality upfront more than at midfield.

Newcastle, they are dark horse, every game I watch them play they look better than their previous game. They have improved tremendously the past calendar year, I think they need more depth than anything but Eddie Howe has done wonderful for them.

Man City though, no doubt they are the best in the business to turn around their squad. I have no doubt they will be able to move their dead wood and replace them with tidy quality young players and make them world class. As usual.

Yeah I don’t want to relitigate the lack of squad planning/football ops at Chelsea but this has been coming.

They’ve been talking a big game for a year about implementing the right structures but we still don’t have a clear hierarchy/leader.

There have been a lot of recent reports about how Poch wants Mount but apparently it’s just completely lost now barring a miracle.

I think them having massive turnover has been a given for a long time now. You can easily come up with a long list of players 80% higher or likely to leave and then a strong list of players who you would put in the 30-70 range or something.

Pulisic, Ziyech, Aubameyang, Mount (sigh), RLC, Chalobah, Azpi, Mendy, Zakaria, Felix

Sterling, Havertz, Gallagher, Kova, Cucurella, Koulibaly, Hudson Odoi, Lukaku, Kepa, Chukwuemeka

plus other youths idek

Madueke, Mudryk, Broja, Nkunku, Kante, Enzo, Chilwell, Colwill, Benoit, Wes, Thiago, Reece, Gusto is the group I would be confident in saying that will be there to start next season. That’s 13. I would say one of Gallagher/Mount, Sterling, Cucurella, Koulibaly, one of the GKs also return. + two new CMs, new GK, and one of a new ST or Havertz. That’s 22.

If LFC is worried about HG players, this is not the summer to sell Kelleher. There’s too much other work to do and he will have more games this year with Europa. Klopp wants him to stay too

Just out of curiosity, how many games did Alison not start this season? I don't personally remember any but I wasn't always paying attention, especially for various cup games
