So as of this morning, Habs have the 13th and 14th picks in the draft.

To the experts who follow the prospects, who are the players you see who can be available around there? And is it still a good spot to get very intriguing players at that range?

There will be intriguing players there, you are out of the tier that are certifiable star players though.

I'm just spitballing but I'd probably go Cristall and Heidt.

I guess the silver lining of not picking Top 10 is that the Florida pick is likely not going to be 25-32 like most of us predicted.

Figured you be more of a Gulyayev guy

Even TOP 10 guys like Dvorsky or Sale can be still available. They are playing for awful clubs and because of that their stats are no that impressive. Both of them are very talented players.

If those are our picks, we’re probably getting the equivalent of top 10 picks in any other year

I hear Hughes is really trying to get another first round pick. Perhaps the plan is to move up using 2 of the picks. This way we might still get one of the top guys and still have another pick without having to tank. We'd still have another first rounder as well. The players will never tank themselves, no player would and maybe they're too good to be manipulated into losing. Personally I would make sure we lose (take a short term hit) and keep all 3 first rounders. We have to make the most of our position or be mediocre again. I say complete the rebuild and in two years or so we would start to rock. You can see glimpses now of how good we can be and we just have to fill a few more holes. We really have to stay the course. Look at Pittsburgh with lemieux and jagr and toronto with mathews. This how it works these days, teams tank and look at how they are rewarded. No one cares if you tanked. Hold your nose and do it!!! Management has to do it.

I think they do want to have 3 picks so they can move up in the draft. You'd have to be intentional about who you are moving up with, so you'd need to find a team that has aged out of contending and their prospect pool is barren, where two first round picks is worth more than one prospects.

If we are drafting today though, with 3 x 1st. I'd be taking Hrabal with the latest one and being willing to move a 3rd and a 5th to move up the board to do so. I'd be looking at who could play on the top line with Caufield-Suzuki and who can form a second line with Dach and Slafkovsky.

I really like someone like Riley Heidt for the Caufield/Suzuki line.. and I think someone like Ziemmer would be good for the Slafkovsky-Dach line.

Heidt-Suzuki-Caufield
Slafkovsky-Dach-Ziemmer
Farrell-Beck-Heineman

That'd be a really good top 9.

Im no expert and Im not following that draft class as much as the last one, but I would be surprised to end up with a top line foward or top pairing defenseman in the 10-15 range. More likely a strong 2nd liner or a very good 2nd pairing defenseman, but hey, we ended up with Caufield at 15th OV in 2019, so everything is possible.

My favorites at this point in that range would be Oliver Moore and Reinbacher. If Salé drops, he will be hard to ignore since he is so talented and hasnt filled his frame yet. Barlow could be a great pick too, top 6 material, great goalscoring abilities coming with the size, grit, puckhandling and strong puck protection skills, I find the kid easily projectable as a solid top 6 in the making, needs to keep working on his skating agility. Ryan Leonard could be interesting too, I mostly focussed on Smith and Perreault while watching the USNDTP, but Leonard seems to have some great tools as well and some sandpaper to his game, I would have to rewatch some games.

Also, you have some big raw talents that I havent watched much, but could end up trending well in the 2nd part of the season, guys like Haltunen, Stramel ect, you have to keep an eye on those kids since bigger guys usually take more time to adjust to higher levels, but the mix of size, skating, skills and raw tools always remains extremmely attractive.

There is alot of quality in this draft and we will most certainly end up with 2 very, very good young players, just probably not elite in that range.

I'm still hoping that the Habs somehow end up with a to 4 pick. It sucks that they always seem to get the high picks in the weak drafts (except for the 2005 draft). I'd be shocked if a team drafting in the top 10 would move back in this year's draft. Hopefully, a few teams drafting ahead of Montreal "reach" for a defenseman or less talented player with their picks. We can also hope for an epic collapse of the Panthers.

why are you insulting Lemieux and Jagr, by putting Matthews who has never done anything in the playoffs in the same category. also the Laffs have literally had a couple of runs in the playoffs in the last 56 years and counting.

The Habs and Panthers have been hanging around the 14th and 15th spots for 3 months now... Safe to say its our reality. Lets hope for Caufield+Guhle.
Suzuki was taken 13th too. It seems to be a nice range for the Habs.

I would probably have Sale and Cristall in the mix

Hopefully at the deadline we trade some good players to NYR, DET and WAS, getting our pick into the top-10 and keeping Florida out of the playoffs
If we could get somehow the 1st from SEA...pretty sure they are going to drop in the standings during 2nd half. EDM & CGY will wake up at some point. Could have another potential lottery pick.

SEA probably isn’t looking to trade there pick, even if there in the playoff the won’t be big buyers.

Yes it's mostly wishful thinking from me but if Hughes could find another 1st from a team that think they are good but they're not, it would be amazing.
