2023 NHL Entry Draft

I mean everyone is relying on a lottery win. Last just has best odds and a guaranteed top 3 pick, which in this draft is getting a team a Franchise player.

Anaheim, Chicago (finally gotten their wish of a bottom 2 finish - they're 31st), Arizona & CBJ are definitely bottom 4. I don't see us catching them unless we start trading people, and getting a lot of key injuries again.

Looking at the points collumn is misleading.

Difference of 5-6 points in differential at 1/3 of the season means nothing.

The only two team who are out of reach are Anaheim and San Jose.

Phoenix is just -4 and we're +1 and about to hit a tough schedule.

Chicago and Columbus are at -6 and -5 and are widening the gap, but as I said, we're about to hit a tough schedule so I wouldn't count them out.

Just give me 1 top 10 pick, one 10-20 (presumably FLA) and one 20-30 pick and I’m happy. In addition to our early second.

Let’s say 8th, 17th, 30th, and 40t
I would trade 17+30+40 to get us closer to 10-12 and then pick 8th and 12th.

We have enough prospects. We need high end
You sound exactly like my daughter with her Christmas wish list lol

Actually, maybe add another top 5 and you’re my kid 😂

He has more SHL goals than Leo Carlsson in 6 less games

Probably why he's being heavily scouted. Always at least a few breakthrough players in any draft year. Then others fade away.

Last year Korchinski and Lekkerimaki spent a lot of the year late 1st/early 2nd then went 7th & 15th, respectively, while Hughes & Goyette fell out of 1st to late 2nd. Verreault wasn't even drafted after being rated an early B prospect (2nd/3rd round).

I'm not really crazy about drafting goalies. Kuemper with the Avs last year proves that defense and offense are a lot more important.

Can someone explain to me why Quentin Musty is expected to go late first/early second round?

I mean, he's one of the youngest player in this entire draft class and he's got a better PPG ratio than Barlow (5th in the OHL for PPG, Barlow sits at 6th).

+ he's definitely not a small small kid (6'2 and 205 lbs left winger)

Hot....cold....hot....cold

Barlow plays every night. Musty could be top 8 easily if he was always on.

He's the classic home run swing type. He was hyped as a potential future 1st OV when he was a young teenager and he has all the raw skills in the world, but he only makes an effort when he feels like it and he gets real cold for long stretches. He's a bit of a weird skater too, he needs some tweaking on his foot work. The potential is real though, if you can set his head straight. We do have a much better development crew now so a guy like this doesn't scare me quite as much at it used to.

Sure, if you have MacKinnon and Makar type talents in front of him. Vasilevskiy is still extremely important to the Lightning.
Tampa was so good that they didn’t even need Vasi. He was just overkill and keeping Kucherov on LTIR until the playoffs made it possible that first year they won.

I like him a lot. I've saw him play in person 3 times last year, 3 times this year. Poster who said he is hot/cold is bang on. But when he's on he looks great. I also love that he plays with an edge. I think the recent coaching change in Sudbury has had some good early results. Maybe there was a coaching issue. I've thought he'd be a great target in the second round, but if the consistency stays up then maybe he will creep higher in the rankings.

I don’t agree. They don’t win without Vasi. Even the series against the Habs. Habs easily win Game 2 if it’s a Kuemper type. Then it’s a whole different series.

You’re right in the sense that any goalie can get hot for a playoff run, like Matt Murray. But if you can get a Vasi type of talent in the 1st round, you go for it. There’s something about having a 65 start type of keeper that intimidates with his mere presence, like Price.

It really isn't, Tampa dominated us without even looking like they tried. It helps when your top players don't suck ass in the playoffs like Gallagher and Toffoli.

Well yes if you see an elite goaltending talent you pick him but that doesn't seem to be the case for this year from what has been seen so far.

Like others said, hot/cold. When he's on, he looks like a power forward. When he's not, he's a soft perimeter player. He too often sticks to perimeter regardless.

However, Sudbury has recently had a coaching change, and Musty has really taken off since then. Sort of like Caufield after they fired Ducharme.

Definitely will be watching him more.

Denver Barkey, London Knights. Every time I go to watch Mailloux, I end up watching this kid. He's small, 5'9. He never stops at either end, and is pretty skilled. Fun player.
